Damaged follicles?

I have a couple spots on my recipient area that I think may be damaged follicles. I had surgery Nov 1, so I am about 2 months post op. Occasionally, when I get out of the shower there may be a point of blood on my scalp and eventually a small scab. Right now I have a couple small scabs on the front part of my head and some redness on my temple where a scab used to be.

Has anyone else had issues like this. Does this mean the follicle is damaged or gone? If damaged, is it most likely permanant? Is it normal to have a couple points like this during the recovery? Thanks for any information.

Probably just an ingrowing hair.

AP,

The minor bleeding is probably a sign that the epidermis (outer) layer of scalp tissue is healing slower than most patients experience. Everyone heals a little differently.

You may want to consider two things at this point post-op. First, consider spraying a saline solution in that area to facilitate the healing. Second, start supplementing with Vitamin C, which also can facilitate the healing process. I took 1500 mg per day for 60 days after my recent hair transplant surgery, and now I am taking 500 mg per day which is my normal regimen.

I see we live in the same area so you are welcome to contact me if you wish, and I would be more than happy to look at the area for you and give you my opinion. Obviously I am not a doctor but I have seen virtually thousands of scalps in the past 27 years. I never charge patients anything either so if you want to swing by on your lunch hour or something you are free to do so.

Also, it is extremely unlikely that any damage was done to your follicles. Hope things go well for you. :hairy:

I'm just off the beltway. If it's hard to come during the work day, possibly you can come on a Saturday morning. But contact me ahead of time as I do have a life on the weekends with family. :)

Thanks FC, that's why I am here and been through all of this myself.

AP, is it possible that you might be scratching your recipient area when you're asleep? You really should nolt be scabbing at this point.

Did you notify your doctor? If your Doctor is out of the area, and this condition persists, you might want to see a dermatologist in your area.
