Guys --

While BHD might have a legitimate case of gyno, remember there are millions of people who take finasteride in the U.S. and abroad. If finasteride's causation of gyno was really so prevalent, there would have been a large public outcry. The fact that most doctors who prescribe finasteride are readily unaware of finasteride causing gyno should decrease your stress level a bit. Also, people have been taking Proscar (5-times the dosage for male pattern baldness) for decades and I don't think too many of them are complaining of growing jugs.

Also, I believe a lot of you might be groping yourselves in the chest region only to discover the inside part of your nipple (it's the fleshy portion of the nipple found inside your chest) and crying gyno. To err on the safe side, get a blood test done that checks for _estradiol_ which is the potent form of estrogen. The simple assays that test for "total estrogen" can be unreliant.

Femininization of the body from high than normal estrogen levels include:

- Increased body fat
- water retention
- loss of muscle definition
- Gyno

drinkrum....bingo!! I couldn't agree more. I still beleive finasteride is safe and side effects are rare.
I may have been more likely to get it since I had a slight case as a pre teen that wen't away. I also had a slight case from steroid use (stupid, stupid, stupid) about 10 years ago which went away.

Hair-x.... This was my findings as well.

Thanks for all the support, help and comments.

OK thought I'd give an update:
I decided to drop my finasteride dose down to .25mg just to see what happens and I can definitely feel a difference. There's no more pain in my left pec and the swelling has gone down a bit and the lump in the right hasn't gotten any bigger and may have gotten a little smaller. I actually decided not to wait for my docs opinion and ordered Nolvadex online without a prescription. Still don't know if I'll actually take it or not.

Over the last week I've definitely noticed an increase in hair loss. There's a lot more hair in the shower drain and it's obviously thinning again. I'm going to try to keep this dose for another week then increase to .5mg and see what happens.

Thanks for the update.

Paranoia has set in so I have cut the finasteride down to less than 1mg vs 1.25.

Good luck!

Well just to add my ten pence worth. Even before I started taking Propecia I had fatty pecks. This was not due to steroids it was just that I was overweight for my height. 5"11 and nearly 13 stone. Plus I was drinking lots of wine and stuffing my face with god knows what.

I now swim everyday and try to watch what I eat. I suspect that weight comes of the face first and always the belly and chest last. If you are worried about it then try to lose some weight. As someone has mentioned already, If Gyno was one of the more common side affects of finasteride then there would be a lot more men walking around with big tits. And a lot more people would be complaining.

I have loads of fat around my belly and sides and this was there before I started finasteride. I am always thinking about it and want to lose it. It may even help with hair loss. Who knows!!!!

From the reaction I get from women I know that I am not growing tits. I just have nice pecks that are a little overweight. I will correct this in the coming months.

Look around you, how many men can you see that have fatty pecks.

I 've always been a drinker, beer and wine mostley. I work out almost everyday at the gym, so i've never had a problem with weight, until i started propecia, since going off the drug i lost about ten pounds, i was stoked to realize what was going on.. I fast tracked and stopped drinking entirely targeting my normal weight, after losing some of it i decided to have some wine, three big glasses, the next morning my weight jumped up about four pounds and my face looked a little bloated again, now this wouldn't have happened after three glasses of wine 6 months ago in my pre-propecia days. I didn't drink any booze at all for the next few days, only lots of water, I lost it again.

anyway its becuase my estrogen levels are still high from propecia. (i've only been off for 2 1/2 weeks) i learned that "Excess estrogen" is stored in fat cells and that alcohol raises e- levels becuase it impairs the liver in The motabolizing and flushing out of excess hormones. for short or long periods of time.

I think i'll be prone to this for a while. until i flush out the excess estrogen...which now I'm extremely sensitive to no thanks to propecia
