does anyone here taken pictures of their hair in the sunlight?

i was at the gym yesterday doing some upright rows in front of a mirror by a window. usually i work out after work on weekdays, after the sun has already gone down. anyway, i got right up close to the mirror where a beam of light was cascading in through the window, and my hair density looked like crap. i've always thought my hair coverage was great based on my bathroom mirror. now i'm wondering if my hair is getting worse, or if it was always like this.

this sucks. it was like getting suckerpunched by the sun.

i'm gonna start taking pictures of my hair outside, and use that as the true test, because indoor lighting doesn't accurately portray coverage.

Very true

Direct sunlight often shows a considerable amount of scalp even in those who are not thinning at all, especially if their hair is quite short. 10 yr old kids with thick-*** hair show scalp in direct sunlight if the hair is short enough. Also, ANYONE who combs their WET hair straight forward (as opposed to straight back, straight sideways or diagonally back - the last being my personal preference) will show scalp through at certain angles, no matter how thick their hair may be. "Thick" hair is more often than not a function of how thick the average individual hair of a person is, rather than the number of follicles. The actual number of follicles does not diminish to any significant degree, even in the advanced stages of balding for the vast majority of men. The thickness of the hair produced by each individual follicle (and therefore the average diameter of hairs in the balding area) is what diminishes severely.
If you are able to completely cover your scalp in direct sunlight with wet hair combed straight back or diagonally back, then you can consider yourself to have a full head of hair (even though this full head of hair may not be as thick as it once was.) Remember, showing scalp in direct sunlight is not necessarily a sign of thinning hair, but people with thinning hair will show more scalp in direct sunlight than they used to.
Cheers,
Arjun
