Okay, so I am at the point now where this is really becoming a big deal, so i am coming to the forums for help.

My mom has thinning hair (it just started and shes 54), her father had a receeded hairline that started in his 40's. Her mother had all her hair.

My dad has thin hair, receeded hair line that also started in his late 30's early 40's. His mom and dad both had full heads of hair.

When i was in my early 20's, i'd say about 20, I noticed during the summer my scalp would get really itchy and I would scratch and scratch untill my scalp would have scabs on it from all the itching.

This would happen from mid spring till about mid fall, and then go away. Over and over, I would change shampoos everything, and nothing would stop the chunking flaking which would lead to itching, which would lead to scabbing. Around 22I noticed that I was shedding hair ALOT more fequently than i used to in the shower. I have always had fine hair, and its always been a pain in the *** to style and get cut, but now I was noticing my hair growth damn near stopped, I cut it short and kept cutting it short becuase it looked good. But i would notice after about 5 months or so of no hair cut, I wasn't growing much past 2 and 1/2 -3 inches.

I knew at around 24 I was getting hair loss pretty significantly, temples were always rather high on me, but now they were very pronounced. At 25 my mother started telling me that my crown was starting to be visable, and this freaked me out.

I am now 26 (I will be 27 in october), and its the same thing. I itch in the summer and shed QUITE a bit more in the summer, and shed almost nothing in the winter. You might say i am crazy on that, but i swear I lose MUCH more hair around this time of year. last year the thinning was so bad I shaved my head, it grew back by around winter time, and my hair looked tolerable again.

I started full blown rogaine in october of 06' About the time i stop shedding normally. In march this year I switched over to the foam. I noticed that I do *not* get the headaches i got on the liquid version of rogaine, and I am shedding much much more. When I was on the normal rogaine, I almost never shed, and I got pretty noticeable headaches just after use. Now on the foam I am shedding like mad again, and i have no headaches.

What is going on?

Also, could this be anything OTHER than male pattern baldness (i can hold out for hope can't i? :) ) As in, SHOULD i see a doctor, or is this pretty clear cut?

I don't mind having a receeded hair-line, as long as the hair that IS there is thick. And right now that is NOT the case.

I have a good deal of gray on my temple air of hair, and now the top of my head is starting to get noticeably peppered with gray hair.

What can I do?

Looking at these pictures after i just took them (I have never looked at it like this before), I have the desire to shave my head once more.

EDIT: I had more hair than this before i started the rogaine, back in october.

Here are the pics:

Definately male pattern baldness. Get on the big 3 or prepare to lose more basically.

Classic male pattern baldness hairloss pattern.

Sorry mate, it's definitely male pattern baldness. Looks like a more advanced pattern of my own thinning.

I'd say you definitely want the big three: finasteride, rogaine and nizoral (this will help with any itching).

have to agree with the above posters that it is male pattern baldness.

but from the symptoms you describe there is a possibility that it may be exacerbated by seb derm (itchyness) and a slight thyroid condition (seasonal loss). the treatments offered above will definately help but i would hold off on minoxidil until you get the scalp condition sorted out. and as said above maybe get your thyroid checked.

just to clarify so others dont read this wrong. i definately think that it is male pattern baldness, but it may be progressing faster than it normally would due to a scalp condition and maybe a thyroid imbalance.

I had my thyroid checked out back when i was 15 or so about the same time i was diagnosed with ADD. It came out negative, but who knows? I am fairly sure my mother has a thyroid condition.

I am interested in getting finasteride and Nizoral, but how can i get them without a perscription? Can anyone recommend a reliable cost effective online solution?

I am guessing insurance won't cover a supply of propecia...

you could get them from internet pharmacy. They are pretty cheap if you buy generics

Can anyone supply a site address that they use? (for generics) I am having trouble finding what doesn't look like a scam, and what isn't ripping me off...

Found Nizoral 2$ in a 120ml bottle for 12$ on canadiandrugstore.com seems legit.

Finding Propecia... this looks to be more difficult...

I use united pharmacies to get my finasteride, might cost a few $ more than the cheapest but it has a very good reputation and I can tell my stuff is the real deal.

http://www.unitedpharmacies.com/

I get Prosmin and cut it up into 1/4's.

Get on the treatments ASAP dude, and best of luck.

If you're looking for propecia/proscar, go to your doctor. He'll definitely prescribe you the medicine. If you can't afford propecia (~$2/pill), you can ask for Proscar. When you go to the pharmacy, ask for generics and you'll bring your cost down to about 50c per 1mg dose.

If he won't prescribe you anything, you can go to a few websites to give you a prescription.

In the meantime, cut your hair down to a 1 or 2.

The word PROPECIA SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THIS FORUM!

Propecia's price would discourage anyone to start treating his hairloss.

Propecia = 1mg of Finasterid per pill
Proscar = 5mg of Finasterid per pill(just cut it in 5)

Unless one has money to burn, buying anything other than the cheapest trustworthy 5mg finasteride and chopping it up is just silly.

Why pay more?

not every doctor will write you a script for proscar.

You shouldn't need one... I just ordered it without one.
