"Just shave it bro!"

We've all heard this before. It's usually from the same types of people, either folks who have never dealt with hair loss and don't know what we're going through, or bald people who are trying to drag us down to their level since by fighting against our hair loss we're basically exposing their insecurities since they don't want to admit that most people don't want to look like them.

So why do people think shaving your head is a good thing? Some typical excuses...

-It shows confidence.

BS, if people were trying to show confidence then why bother even shaving your head to begin with? If you really don't give a crap about what most people think then why not just grow out your horseshoe and not shave it at all? The fact is that shaving your head is no different than what any of us do, we're trying to hide the fact that we're balding. People who shave their head do so because they want others to think that it is a choice. Problem is we can still see you're obviously balding.

-You'll save a lot of money.

Oh, really? What you save in shampoos and conditioners will instead be spent on additional razors, shaving cream as well as sunscreen and hats since there is going to be nothing that stops the hot sun from baking away at your shiny chrome dome.

-It is much more convenient.

Convenient for whom? I already can't stand shaving my face as it is and now I'm going to have to shave all around my head too? The amount of time it would take to shave my head would take way more time than popping a pill, washing my hair with ketoconazole and dropping a few ML of minoxidil on my scalp in the morning.

-Chicks dig the bald look.

If that is the case then how come most male models have full heads of hair? How come most Hollywood men who are considered sexy like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Liam Hemsworth have full heads of hair? How come in many movies and TV shows the bad guy is often bald while the hero has a full head of hair? It is because people HATE bald men and if you find them attractive it means you're freaking weird.
Just go to a club and see which guy is picking up the chicks. It's not the bald dude, that is for sure.

-Hair loss treatments are extremely dangerous!

Fact is very few people get side effects from Finasteride and/or Minoxidil. In case you're one of the unlucky few who do suffer from sides, simply stop taking the medications. Maybe consider RU-58841 or topical Spironolactone.

So yeah, bottom line is don't tell me "just shave it bro!" because I have never seen a bald man I have wanted to look like.

It is a cosmetic defect, end of story.

I think guys who tell you to shave your head do it, either consciously or sub-consciously, to make the competition easier. It's hard enough out there as it is to get girls, etc. More bald guys makes fullheads look superior and gives them easy ammunition to use in an argument, it is impossible to win an argument with a nw1 if you are bald/balding - this advantage can be used in banter with friends and around girls.

No insult or piece of banter, that is socially acceptable to say, beats a bald one(I'm not even nw3 yet and i f*****g get these from my friends!)

Can't really blame people for any of this though as its human nature

Of course we hate them, why the f*** a "shave it bro" would come to this forum for ? To sell his new Gillette series ? Come on, they should not create an account in the first place

Some men have no other options and this forum has a coping section for a reason.

i think people who have hair really don't want there to be a cure for baldness. they don't want to lose their sizable advantage when it comes to girls.

when a man who is 40 still has all his hair, he is considered a very lucky and fortunate individual, one that bald men with good looking wives are wary of

Shave it works for a few guys. And for those few - awesome. But I'd say it's only slightly more common than any number of other rarities. It's like saying "I suck with women" so the reply is "Maybe have sex with men?". That's actually a solution for a small number of men. But it's pretty stupid general advice.

I think you are projecting here a bit, half of the fullheads are afraid of balding in the future themselves. If I thought about baldness at all when still being a full head it was always ‘ I hope they find that f*****g cure before I look like that guy on the other side of the road’

'Just shave it bro' is still a healthier way of dealing with hair loss than messing with neurosteroids that are still very badly understood. It is probably also healthier than locking yourself up in your mother's basement and wallow in self-pity and complain about how unfair the world is.

Besides, how more many men shave their head, the more it will become normal over time.

90% of women in America are overweight.

It doesn't make them 1% less disgusting.

My boner works on an absolute scale, it doesn't curve based on the median.

Every NW1 looks at a bald man with contempt. Everything that they say to him regarding his hair and his hair loss is meant to deride him. When I was young, other children used to bully me by pretending to be my friend and using some of the 'gangsta' language that I liked to use. In fact, they were just making fun of me for using that language. This is exactly the mentality of men with hair regarding baldness; just replace the gangsta language with baldness and it's about the same.

The "just shave it, bro" advice is delivered in the same vain. So don't trust it. By all means try it, see how it doesn't work and then come back here to complain. But don't trust guys who say that shaving it will change anything. You're still bald and that means that you have no tangible reason to live, no hope for happiness in the future and - if you're young - can look forward to years and years and waking up every day with the misery of feeling like a disappointment to yourself and everybody who ever supported you. NW1 guys who say "just shave it, bro" can't possibly understand that. Just get on treatments and hope for the best, bro.

Haha.

I meant it more from a supply-demand perspective and from a perspective to reduce the 'freakishness' of balding.

Same argument can be turned 360° for many(including you)!
Why are you here if you are saving hairs by finasteride ?Have a happy nw0 life :) if you can achieve it.
Don't look at problems from single dimension.

People who shave head(I am not in it) have no options other than to shave the head/buzz and try to improvise life on other aspects of life.
And who are we to hate shaved bald men.
It's their head, let them do whatever they want.

Take shave it bro in a casual way.
The only way to fight baldness is compromise .
Different people do in a different way.
Using Finasteride is also a compromise.

I have asked my 10 medical friends who are nw0 about" what is the use of Finasteride in one word"
All of them said.. BPH(Benign prostatic hyperplasia.)

Shaving your head makes you look better. It's NOT Plan A (little or no hair loss), but it makes you look healthier. A spatter of hair (at the point it needs buzzed) makes you look like a sick cat, or someone exposed to radiation. At THAT point, the buzz look is better. We're talking about someone who is holding on to that last bit of hair patch...
