Hello,

I posted a little while back before my derm visit. Thank you for all those that reply.

Went to my 4th Derm.

Derm 1: Looked at my hairline/hair & said looks completely normal for you age. As we age your hairline will go back. If it bothers you can try Minoxidil but I do not see a reason to do that.

Derm 2: Looked at my hairline/hair & said yep you have male pattern baldness. I said OMG will I go bald. He said I can not predict that but it is highly unlikely. You can try Minoxidil if you want for your temples. Confused with how I can have male pattern baldness but can not go bald.

Derm 3: Looked at my hair/hairline & said I do not see anything aggressive here looks completely normal for your age. I do not recommend any treatment. He said I do not see any miniaturization but just check every 6 months & go from there.

Derm 4: Looked at my hair/hairline & said your temples have gone back slightly with your front hairline having zero recession., no crown or vertex loss. Looks like regular aging to me. I asked him that I was scared because I did not want to hop on Propecia late instead of being preemptive. He said it could very much stop since you have no thinning & it would be a bigger risk jumping on Propecia.

Family History;

Dad: 55 Yr. Old NW1 No balding
Mother: No balding
Grandfather(P): 76 Yr Old. NW3 No balding(No Crown or Vertex Loss)
Grandmother(P): No Balding
Grandfather(M): 72 Yr. Old Started at 18 Bald
Grandmother(M): No balding

Should I listen to last Derm?

Thank you again.

It's really up to you. You know your hair better than anyone else. In my experience derms usually don't have good training in male pattern baldness. You gave several derms a shot. Maybe try a reputable hair transplant surgeon in your area?

or option 2 is to self medicate.

If your hair always looked like that then you dont really have anything to worry about and the derms were right. If you lost a lot of hair from your younger years than maybe its male pattern baldness and worth doing something. Not many other choices, and if its not that bad like yours at least seems to be from the pictures then is it a bad thing to wait and make sure before jumping in feet first? Is taking a drug forever something you really want to do just for fun? Why not wait and be sure before going down that very long expensive road.
