Dermarolling Questions And Advice Needed

I'm interested in adding Dermarolling to my finasteride and nizoral regime and have done some research but this has only raised more questions for me.

1) Can anyone recommend a good dermaroller for hair (regrowth) or are they all similar? I've seen that ther's quite a few available on Amazon but I've no idea which are the best ones.

2) I've read that you need the correct length of needle depending on your level of hair loss. I'm about a Norwood 2.5 to 3 at the temples and some thinning at the front but where I have hair it's still very thick. What would you recommend?

3) One article I read also advised to go to an expert rather then do it yourself? Thoughts?

4) I use Retinol and have read it can make the skin extra sensitive and sore to Dermarolling. Anyone had any experience of this?

5) Any other tips? How often should I do it and for how long? Do you only need to do it on the areas where you've lost your hair?

Answers/advice for any of these questions would be appreciated thanks.

1) the best dermapen thats not going to break your bank is a Dr pen A6, if you dont want to spend too much the MYM pen is does the job to.
2) most of the results have come from 1mm+ plus needling so use that as a barometer , id say 1.5mm and on all areas that your currently bald/thinning.
3) just lol ofcourse theyd advice that so they can make money
4) its not good with dermarolling yeah, there both doing the same thing technically.you might do more harm to your skin then help it.
5) try out the regime give it a year atleast if you dont see results prior, dont attempt this half heatedly and be consistent

I'd say dermarolling has helped me tremendously. I went from using a 1.5mm titanium zgts roller to a dr pem a6. Honestly, I thought the dr pen would hurt less but that was not the case for me. I do believe I'm getting better coverage with it though, I'm definitely bleeding more and have a much more even redness. It only took me 3 months ro see cosmetically significant results.

On a side note, I suggest starting on 100mg Ubiquinol daily in the morning. I believe it contributed to thickening and darkening on existing hairs which were miniaturized.

A well reputable med professor from my school made me recently a regime and treatment that he uses also for hair loss and that grew a lot of hair on his head at 50+ years and it contains Coenzyme Q10 100mg but the normal one, he did not mention of this one and this one i found it only in 200mg versions in my country and it's quite expensive, over 50 euros for 30 pills, how much do you take, have you experimented with different dosages?

I'm Just taking the 100mg Ubiquinol, which is equivalent to about 400mg Ubiquinone (normal Coenzyne Q10). I was lucky and got it on sale... 60 for $13. It gives me a good amount of energy, and hair seems much healthier. Everyone should at least try it.

Just ordered some q10, even if it just makes my hair look healthier it's a good buy, Add it to my list of supplements and meds to take every morning.

As for dermarolling, i use a 1.5mm ZGTS one, i roll lightly before applying minoxidil every night, just some redness, no blood, then go harder once a week with it until i start seeing blood spots. You could try a pen, i have the dr.pen ultima a6, it wounds much better but i found it tugged out alot of hair when using so that sorta scared me off using it.

Yea, I have the 1.5mm zgts, used it for 3 months and just recently got the dr pen a6 ultima. Only used it 1 time so far... definitely got better coverage with it.

Thanks for the replies. Several comments here seem to recommend the dr pen so I looked it up on Amazon. It wasn't what I expected tbh. I thought it would be an actual roller but it is literally a pen shaped instrument! Still it's readily available and gets mostly good reviews so I'll give it a go.
I looked up q10 too. Not sure how much it could do for hair loss but it might be worth a go. It's affordable and safe so ther's nothing to lose.

Oh, just one last question. Should I use some kind of cream on the bleeding/redness after dermarolling?

I've found that numbing creams have been useless for me.

Just rinse your hair when you’re done rolling. The little bit of bleeding you get isn’t persistent. I take a wet wash cloth and rub my scalp periodically to wipe the blood and keep the hair damp as I roll. If you buy a scalp scrubber like the Denman Be-Bop and scrub your scalp every time you shampoo like you’re scrubbing dead hooker blood out of the carpet, it will make your scalp less sensitive to needling. Of course you won’t be able to scrub that hard for a couple of days after needling due to the scalp inflammation.

Update - so I've ordered the Dr Pen a6 off Amazon. I just hope it's genuine.

Ordered mine from Amazon as well. I was a bit surprised at first to see the A6 I received says made in China (but hey so are iphones), but it seems well made and it's given me no reason to think it's not genuine.

I've been using it for little more than a month now (with minoxidil foam) and am seeing some new hairs starting to grow on my right temple. It's not cosmetically significant yet, but it's encouraging to see I'm getting some regrowth in an area where 5+ years of minoxidil and finasteride hadn't done anything

Cool, I didn't know you could get results that quickly. Sounds promising!

I guess I should clarify, I do draw blood unintentionally or otherwise especially at the front half of the scalp, it looks pretty rough until I’m done. Then I just rinse my hair out with water until it’s clear. Never have issues with scabbing. Other than the redness and tenderness that’s all I experience. I generally do 6-7 passes per width of the roller, then repeat again at 90 degrees then try to do 45 degrees but it’s not always easy being consistent at that angle.

how long does the redness/blood spots last for?
This issue i have is after 5 or 6 days my scalp starts to peel so for a day or 2 you get dead skin you have to pick out of hair.
