I Understand the feelings completely! I have been shedding heavily non-stop for the past seven months and have gone from a thick head of hair to thin hair that I put up with baby clips :freaked:
Some days are better than others, but washing my hair is the most anxiety provoking time. My fiancee says he can't notice a thing, but I feel insecure...not so much about him leaving me, but just my self-esteem is at it's all time low.
I am on Rogaine 2%. Hvae been on it for four weeks and I am experiencing the Rogaine sheds. They say it will be over after the fourth week but so far I see no slow down.
Also use Nizoral and Tricomin.
I am still in the early stages so I cant really say much about progress. Just not having any luck stopping the shedding yet. I would suggest waiting till you rule things out through the blood tests before taking on Rogaine, but if you want to get proactive, search through the products on this site.

I was wondering, did the oils stop working or did you just get tired of the regimen?

I feel for you...

HI!
Karen- I feel for you! I posted a similar post a few weeks ago. I am still devestated and depressed. Our partners do love us, and they will be there for us. However, I agree with the other person who posted a reply- it's our self-esteem that is the most important. Yours, like mine is probably shot. I have my family and friends telling me that I am ridiculous. "It's not so bad!". Ugh, yea it is-TO ME!!!!!!!!!!! I went to a derm. He was better than the last one I went to, but he still wasn't the greatest. He told me I am thinning, and he is concerned. He was concerned, but not at all sympathetic. Why do they have to be so insensitive? Anyway, i am getting off topic. I started taking biotin, and some perscription vitamin. I also started using rogaine. i hate it. It is annoying to put in twice a day, and what's worse is that Whne I put it in, it makes my thinning spots even more noticeable. It takes me twice as long to do my hair. AND IT IS NOT WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I have only been on it for a little over a month... so maybe it will work. i am still shedding like a beast though!!!!!!!!! I am writing with some words of encouragement. I just bought (today!) a wig piece. It is not a full wig. It is a top piece that covers the top of my head. It has strands of hair hanging in the back too, but my hair (that I do have) blends in with it. I am not sure how great this is yet, as I just got it today. I think I like it, but it is just so much hair on the top of my head. I am not used to it. I am afraid and paranoid that people can tell I am wearing a wig type thing! I am a teacher, so I have been off for the summer, so when I go back to work I am afraid that my co-workers are going to be like "Oh my, she's wearing a wig, it's so obvious". But I couldn't go on with the way things were. I'll let you know if anyone says anything. You might want to consider getting something like this, to help you with getting up every morning. It is pricy though. I got a synthetic one, so it was $225! The real hair wigs are over $400! Good luck to you. You are not alone.

To Karen,
What products have you tried, aside from the aromatherapy? I don't know what is availabale in the UK, and what can be order in the UK via the Internet?
Some of the guys, and even some of the women are using stuff from Dr Richard Lee, http://www.minoxidil.com/
Like the Xandrox solutions. I KNOW they can ship outside the USA!!
Between the treatments sections on this site, and the treatment options on Dr Lee's site, you should be able to come up with something to try.

To all us Ladies,
at some point, we all have to come to terms with our hair loss. We wonder why it happened to us. I think the truth is, it is MUCH MORE widespread than any of us ever thought. Thanks to the Internet, we have access to more support, research, and information than our sisters-in-hairloss of even a dozen years earlier. Too bad most doctors haven't kept up! But, then, they haven't really kept up with women's issues, period.
I think totaldispHAIR can be an inspiration to us all. She came to put her hair loss in perspective, as should we all. Read the summary of her journey here: http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/discussions ... php?t=4183
I guess we all gotta do what we gotta do: we try products, with varying degrees of progress. We cry, we are angry, we vent.
At some point, you have to accept the hand you are dealt. 100% regrowth will probably NOT happen!! So, the solution may have to be a new hair piece, a wig, a new hair style or enough regrowth to look like our "before" pictures.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but we just have to quit beating ourselves up over this. We are the same people we were before we clogge our drains!!!
I'll get off my soapbox now.... :hairy:

I understand the partner issue completely.
When I started losing my hair. My husband said "If you go bald, I'll have to look for a woman w/ hair" I cried for days.

Now he offers to help w/ the Rogaine and tries to be supportive. But I know my mother has fussed at him alot during this.

But he has apologized over and over again. Emotions are running high while we are going through this. And we all have each other. :)

I started the Rogaine last week. Today is a week. Today my mother and my husband noticed some new growth on the thinning areas. It was short and curly. Is that normal? Will that all fall out? I know after a week of 2% that it can grow that quickly can it?

Vitamins for hairloss

Hi,
Thought i'd share my experience with you ladies. Im 34 with waist length hair. I have been experiencing shedding for the last year, my once thick hair has now reduced to half. I am not any birth control pills, etc, i blame my diet, as i was constantly dieting (for 3 yrs) i didnt eat fresh fruit or veg, basically i starved myself. I went to see my Doctor, who looked at my hair and advised me to eat fruit, veg etc. Since seeing the Doctor, ive done hours of research on the net & have self prescribed the following which i have been taking for the past 6 weeks or so: Biotin (up to 4 mgs a day), calcium, inositol, choline, mega hair vitamins and a vitamin B complex. My shedding seems somewhat under control now, Before in the shower there was a plug hole full of hair, now there is approx 15 hairs & when i comb my wet hair, maybe about 30 hairs - a vast improvement as before when my hair was wet comb fulls were coming out. In the daytime i spot maybe 3-4 hairs fall out, in comparison to loads before.

I dont how how it will be before i can see new hair growing back, but before my hair looked dead, but now it is beginning to shine. I just started to use a baby shampoo to wash my hair & do not blowdry it but leave it to dry naturally.

Maybe im being paranoid, but since taking these vitamins, my grey hair seem to be disappearing too, its been 10 weeks since i last dyed it with a hair dye that is only supposed to last 6 washes or so ( thats how long the dye used to last before).

Fingers crossed, lets hope it stops soon.

I live in the Phoenix Area and am desperate to know of any Doctors specializing in hair loss. I am 18 years old have been to an endocranologist, natureo path, dermatoligist, and an immune system specialist. There has to be someone out there that can help me. I am willing to travel if the help is exceptional.

Hi
I'm 19 and have been experiencing diffuse hairloss for about 2 years now. At first I didn't mind it but recently it's got lot worse. I used to have shoulder-length hair and I cut it short hoping that it will stop and regenerate (I used to have lots of split hairs which drove me crazy) But it didn't stop.
About a month ago I quit using comercial shampoos and went for the natural thing (a traditional formula my grandmother used) plus I started taking some vitamins. It used to fall in heaps like up to 150 per day now it's reduced to almost 50. I can see tiny little thin hairs growing. They're much thinner than what my hairs used to be could this be a bad sign or a good one (I read about Telogen Effluvium and about Androgenetic Alopecia and I got a little confused. Do those tiny thin, but still growing hairs mean you have Androgenetic Alopecia or is it a sign of recovery?)
I also know I have to do some tests to see if I can find a cause for the hairloss problem (hormone levels, iron deficiency)and I intend to do them just to rule out some possibilities but my main question is:
Are tiny thiner hairs a definite sign of Androgenetic Alopecia or I can still have some hope of recovery?

at a complete loss...

hello all...

i am a korean-american, 25 year old girl who has been diagnosed with telogen effluvium. i have been losing my hair for the past 2 years now and every derm that i have been to says there is nothing that i can do (what good are docs for?).
over these past couple years, i have probably lost about 50-60% of my hair and the texture of it has dwindled significantly. i used to have very fine, soft, silky hair...good enough to be in hair product commercials...but those days are long gone.
before the start of the hairloss, i underwent depression for a brief stage in my life which led to physical digression within my body. i crash-dieting for months, near-anorexia, took all sorts of anti-depressants, downers, etc...and now im paying for my choices. it is clear where the origin of my Telogen Effluvium came from, and i realize that mental stress is a clear factor in Telogen Effluvium, but its hard NOT to stress when your hair is constantly falling out faster than its growing in! now i will do almost anything to remedy whats left of my precious hair. AND to top it all off, i have itchy, flaky scalp to accompany the hair loss. WTC. so i have been using head & shoulders, but only off and on cuz it dries out my hair. not much has resulted from that.
its so embarassing to go out with my friends and family. i always catch myself staring enviously at other women's gorgeous, long, lustrous, healthy hair, and then i start feeling sorry for myself. its a vicious, VICIOUS cycle.
anyways, any advice on how to regrow hair? stop the itching and flaking?
also, i saw an infomercial the other day on a product called scalpmed- guaranteed to grow back your hair within 2 months of use. i saw/read the testimonials and before/after photos, and it all seems real. have any of you heard of this product and would you recommend it with hair problems like mine? PLEASE HELP ME. I AM AT A TOTAL LOSS.
