DHT/Testosterone

I understand this probably is a stupid question to most of you. Are testosterone and DHT completely different hormones that both have their own affect on hairloss. Or is Testosterone turned into DHT meaning that only DHT has an affect on hairloss?

What you ask is a rather controversial issue. Testosterone and DHT are slightly different versions of the basic male hormone, with DHT being more potent an androgen than testosterone. The conventional wisdom on hairloss sites claims that it's only DHT which causes male pattern baldness, but I personally don't believe that. Testosterone does, too, in my opinion; it's just that testosterone has a noticeably weaker effect than DHT.

How many different kinds of male androgens are there? If someone has high estrogen levels how much does that counteract having say high DHT levels?

I don't know the answer to either one of those questions.

Do you think the reason propecia does not completely stop male pattern baldness is because it raises testosterone slightly which is enough to keep male pattern baldness slowly progressing or is it because of the small amount of DHT even while on propecia?
It still seems to me that removing all androgens would completely stop male pattern baldness its just propecia is not powerful enough. I know a few guys that have zero facial hair at like 35 and have zero hair loss. There surely is a powerful connection like they say between androgens and hair loss.

Not sure. Might be both of those things. Finasteride only stops about 90% or so of the 5a-reductase type 2 enzyme (the one mainly responsible for hair loss).

I agree.
