You can try with finasteride. It might thicken you're hair but it won't cause awesome results. If you are not happy with the results, you can always add minoxidil later, but always wait 6 months to 1 year to see how your hair respond to the medication.

I can try that, or maybe I can also switch to dutasteride
I'd start with finas. I'm on dutas and it Is doing nothing for my hair. I had to add several stuff, and one of them is topical finasteride. I know you are desperate and want strong drugs, but strong doesn't always mean better.

If I were you I'd use finas for 6-months-1 year > Minoxidil if you don't like the results and if you are still thining after 6 months with minoxidil, then I'd consider dutasteride, but I wouldn't drop finas, maybe 5 times per week finas and 2 times per week dutas.

This sounds like a good idea. How long do the effects last reasonably? Will i be able to keep my hair till 50s?

It will keep your hair for a decade or maybe more. Don't think about it, there are new drugs in the pipeline for the next 5-6 years so if they get released we will have more guns to fight the curse.
