3g/kg (Ethanol / body weight) caused massive suppression of testosterone (67). Between hours 1.5 and 96 (yes, 4 days later), testosterone was reduced between 50-75% and, even a full week later, it was still down 40%. By week two, it was finally back to control level. 3g/kg also reduced HCG stimulated testosterone secretion by 75% (66). In male macaque monkeys, 2.5 and 3.5g/kg reduced testosterone levels by 63 and 70%, respectively (68)
.

We all know that Testosterone is required for production of DHT, so having less DHT can PARTLY lower balding, no? I know that Sensitivity to DHT is also a big factor, but this can partly explain why alot of alcoholic bums have nice heads of hair lol. Just throwin it out there

Possibly but m.p.b is prefferable to dying of liver scirossis. Most Drugs also lower the production of testosterone.[attachment=0:3g30juqq]DavidBowie_IggyPop_LouReed2.jpg[/attachment:3g30juqq]

I wasnt really implying that it's a 'treatment' for male pattern baldness, but it can certainly explain a few things...lol.

Right, my calculations tell me I need to drink 10 pints of beer to get that amount of alcohol..

I'm 75kg, so from 3gr/kg, I need about 225gr of ethanol.... I drink beer that is 4-5% alcohol, meaning each pint contains roughly 20-25gr of it... So, 10 pints does it....

On a more serious note... I started thinning after I quit drinking... I'm not sure which one I prefer, intoxication and suppressing my testosterone or healthy living, clear mind and lots of libido :jackit: ...

I think I'm gonna go with :jackit: ... My mind is much clearer now, and I prefer it this way...

I've read that opiates (such as Morphine and Codeine) decrease testosterone in much the same fashion, maybe I should go and find a few junkies, see how much hair they have..

I've also read a study (and read a few posts on SSRI boards) saying that SSRI's decrease testosterone levels (enough to require some men get testosterone-replacement patches).
I've also heard that SSRI's can actually increase male pattern baldness.. what gives?

Started losing my hair at age 20. At that time I was in a fraternity and lived in the house. I treated my liver like a soccer ball.

A good friend of mine is a recovering alcoholic and he lost nearly all the hair on the top of his head well before he stopped drinking.

There is a million posts like this.

"Do ________ have a lower incidence of balding?"

I'm just saying, its a generality that rarely is true to any various group of people.

Comeon you know the answer to this. :jackit:

Besides when I started thinning, that summer after high school I was drinking like a fish and even during my senior year.

I'm not talking about genetics though, i'm talking about the act of drinking high amounts of alcohol and how it impacts your Testosterone (since we all know that part of the equation is T--->DHT--->male pattern baldness.). We all know that Alcohol changes your Testosterone/Estrogen ratio; lowers the harmful androgen and increases the hair benefiting Estrogen. Nowhere did i say that if you drink alot, you wont go bald lol.

It's not like i took a random subgroup with a sample size of 5 people and said that the whole group must be impervious to balding. At least there's some science behind what im trying to say. Once again im just trying to spark up intellegent debate instead of opening a can of worms. Stop being such rigid thinkers guys

If someone is prepared to pay my wages, I'm willing to be a human guinea pig :)

I'll drink 3-4 beers a night, and see what happens in 10 years :)

That much we agree on. I'd much rather be NW7 and fit than NW1 and permenantly have 20 extra pounds of fat on me.
