Do I carry on using Propecia/finasteride?

Hi guys,

Sorry to ask this here, but I figure it's potentially quite a big deal, so want to make sure I'm making the right decision!

I'm considering (or rather, for the past few days have) come off the finasteride... here's a post I made in another thread:

I've been on finasteride for maybe 4 or 5 months now, and whilst I'm aware that isn't long enough to really tell if it's working, I can safely say 100% my hair loss hasn't got any better, and in fact, yes it quite possibly has got worse.

Not going to bother with any other treatments though really, I did a lot of research and Propecia seemed to be not only the most effective treatment by quite some way, but also one that requires minimum hassle.

It hasn't worked, but I'm still glad I tried it, just hope things won't get a lot worse now that I'm off it!
Quite simply, with that in mind, should I be giving it up? I've not had any sides, but not noticed any improvements at all, in fact it could be getting worse.

But I don't want to quit now, and then realise I should've carried on...

Any suggestions would be ace, thanks :)

well firstly where do you get your finasteride from
and secondly are you sure your hairloss is male pattern baldness?

I've got a two year supply from a registered doctor! :) Only used half a pack so far, heh.

Almost certain it's male pattern baldness to be honest, my dad's bald (although he lost it at a much younger age than me) and it's basically just receding at the front yeah.

Cheers

i think you should just persevere i mean some people don't see results for years, and most people see shedding before the results so if your hair is getting worse that could be a good sign

also i strongly recommend you get a growth stimulant like minoxidil because all your doing is slowing it down or even stopping it, finasteride can't regrow hair very well without minoxidil and minoxidil can't stop male pattern baldness very well without finesteride.
most people here recommend the "big 3" which are finesteride, minoxidil and nizoril shampoo

Don't give up. You're probably impatient to see results but it's still too early.

not true... finasteride can regrow hair on its own, it needs time for results (normally).

popping a pill is easy and doesnt really affect your social life, having to put minoxidil on your hair twice a day is a massive pain for an active guy.

id say stick with finasteride for 8-12 months. then decide after that.

i had great results with finasteride and nizoral alone, these only started after 8 months. so stick in.

Okay, still on it, and still not sure it's having any positive impact at all, and in fact my dad just mentioned that there's been a really silly high number of hairs and that in the shower recently, so with that in mind...

1. Could the Propecia actually be speeding up my hair loss?

2. Will coming off it set off some kind of reaction and be a disaster? :(

Thanks

Why would Propecia speed up your loss? You risk increased hair loss if the Propecia is working and you stop it.

if your not experiencing sides, i'd hang with it for another 6 to 12 months and reevaluate then.
