Hi there

I'm 27 years old and I always had thin hair. At 16, people were already mentioning my hair was very thin and it looked like I was going to be bald soon. As you might imagine, this is not very reassuring at such age, and since early my hair has been a big concern to me.

Since I played guitar in a rock band during my high school phase, I started using my hair long, which helped concealing the hair loss.

At 18 I started taking propecia, and I have been on 1,25mg/day since then. In the beginning my hair was thin, and the thinning has always slowly progressed. Propecia didn't make me regrow any hair, but it probably slowed down the loss. In my family, my uncle had premature male pattern baldness, as well as a 1st degree cousin.

As to my balding pattern, I actually find it is quite unusual. Even though it's thinner, I still have my full hair line, and temple points, but my hair is incredibly thin everywhere, specially on top and sides. You can easily see a lot of my scalp on my sides if I'm not using concealers. It looks like female pattern baldness, and I don't know if this is common in men, but I think not.

What do you think? Is it good old male pattern baldness or anything else?

If anything, you have a higher chance of this being NOT male pattern baldness related i think. The pattern is all over your head, it could be totalis

Hi Hairze;

Your case is strange.
have you a photo, at 18, in the begining?
Did you remember hair loss at sides of head?

I think I don't have a photo, but I had much higher overal hair density, and there was less density on top and crown, with sides and back almost normal.

I've always had thin coarse hair, just like my sister does. At 16 my crown started to thin a bit, at 18 top and crown started thinning progressively, and in the last two years sides and back have considerably thinned to the point you can see in the picture. I remember that two years ago I didn't use dermmatch in my sides and back, and in the last year I always have to...

Looking forward for more opinions on this.

its highly likely its not pure male pattern baldness.

get checked for thyroid issues, malabsortion, systemic fungal infection, dental, gallbladder, or nasal and epipharyngs cavity infections or cysts that might hinder hair growth. your pattern is very-very unusual.

I have irritable bowel syndrome and chronic sinusitis. It's hard to associate these with hair loss.

How can I test for all those things. I can easily get free blood and urine tests, but I don't what I would specifically ask. Could you please help?
