Do I need Nizoral after adding topical finasteride

Hi,

I am presently contemplating adding topical finasteride to my existing regimen. Wondering if adding a topical minoxidil + finasteride combo( available in my country) would make the need for nizoral redundant?

No need for Nizoral but it can be helpful.
Nizoral is basically a trademark name so it may be unavailable in some countries. What you want is shampoo with ketoconazole.

I meant a ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo. Plenty of generics available here including the original.

Since a topical finasteride solution would block dht and ketoconazole is a weak DHT inhibitor, wouldn't it make the latter somewhat redundant?

Ketoconazole also has anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties that may account for its effectiveness. Being fairly easy to incorporate into your regimen I wouldn't go without it.

Here's a study showing finasteride+ketoconazole yelds better results than finasteride alone:

Why do people keep misleading people into believing that ketoconazole is a DHT inhibitor? May I remind you all that an androgen inhibitor and DHT inhibitor are two different things. And there is no conclusive evidence that has proven that it is any of the two.

There was other pretty well known study that concluded 2% katoconazole is as effective as 2% liquid minoxidil.
I don't remember the details as it was long time ago.

i think we all know that nizoral is not even comparable to minoxidil.. if you wanna believe a study as oppose to THOUSANDS of users then go ahead.. but your just eating whatever they feed you. Nizoral will not regrow you one single hair by itself, minoxidil may give you a couple.

I would chose Nizoral over Minoxidil with no doubt.

Minoxidil gives you a 'cosmetic' thickening/regrowth but you keep losing your hair at the same pace. There's a study showing that after 5 years of minoxidil guys who where asked to stop the treatment matched or worsened the hair counts of the controls within less than 2 months.

Nizoral is more likely to interfere with the balding process and slow it down. It may not be strong enough to regrow significant hair but chances are that it will help you keep what you have.

Everything is action and consequence. We have a few conjectures that might be deemed as being somewhat tenable. However, hairloss is a symptom of an underlying problem that is still not clearly understood.

I am a bit wary of nizoral because of the SLS/SLES in it. Considered regenepure but it is rather expensive.

I use a green tea, aloe vera and apple cider vinegar shampoo that has been working great so far. Not in terms of regrowth but overall scalp health; flakiness.
