Do people ever get re-growth from finasteride alone?

I'm interested know if people do actually get re-growth from using just finasteride alone?

I see many stories of re-growth but it's usually from people who are on the big 2 or the big 3, and so it's always unclear in terms of which actually gave them re-growth of hair, or if it was the joint effort and using one treatment alone would not have given them the re-growth, impossible to work out.

My plan is to use finasteride alone and if it bodes well with me, then stick with that. And if it doesn't bode well, then instead go to Plan B which would be minoxidil alone.

Seems like it's fairly common to me, people definitely do get regrowth, or at least restored thickening of thinning hair on finasteride. Ad minoxidil for additional growth.

If it's to do with fear of side effects, you get a minimal chance of sides with either product and they're totally unrelated, you may as well be worried about sides with one product and then sides with the other. I'd even understand more why someone would try minoxidil first, because fear of a loss of libido is a lot more worrying than fear of an itchy scalp, but going on finasteride first? I don't get it.

Unless both affects your budget, please explain why you wouldn't do both, to me it's just wasting time.

I shall explain:

My hair loss is diffuse thinning all over the top part of my scalp (mainly so at the crown but essentially all over the top). I went to see my doctor recently and he inspected my hair loss and basically said "minoxidil would not really be the ideal regime for me because my hair loss is all over the top as opposed to just the crown or just the front section and so a regime of applying minoxidil twice daily could become very frustrating and tiresome for you", not to mention that I tend to have my hair mid-length on top as opposed to cut short, which apparently makes thing even more tricky with min.

So my intention is to use finasteride as plan A and if all goes well in terms of side effects then stick with it, but if not then at least I have plan B to fall back on with min. If I start both then say have side effects from either finasteride or min then A) I won't know which one is causing the side effects without stopping and starting both separately in trials, and B) when I find the one that's the culprit and stop using it, I may possibly lose ground in terms of any gains I had, which could be annoying to witness 'visually' speaking.

Seems a logical plan to me but maybe I'm way out of my depth on here haha

So you're a diffuse thinner? In that case Minoxidil becomes even more crucial to eek out any regrowth. Get the liquid if you're applying it to areas with hair and massage it in. I know why you want to avoid Minoxidil (i'm not on it) but I am only a receder. If I was diffusing and under attack all on top, I would seriously consider using both. Especially as you're probably not a great transplant candidate due to possible shock loss in areas with weak hair.

I've seen some who went on just finasteride/dutasteride and got some impressive results.

Thanks for your answer and I can see the logic yeah, but I doctors aren't particular specialists in every field and I would think hair loss is one your doctor rarely has to deal with. finasteride will block the DHT which may prevent further loss, if you're looking for re-growth you need to do both, it's rule no.1.

This. I went to two doctors that both said their was nothing that I could do. Delay my treatment for years because of those stupid ***holes.

1.5 months on finasteride i started pretty early cause my temples are recessing decently and my father started balding @ 19 but everyone can see the difference

Yeah I think with the photos I'm going to make a note of what room of my house I'm in when I take the photo, and do it at night every time with the same light switched on and try use the same camera although that's quite difficult with continually updating mobile phones and cameras.

i mean i can see improvement cause i have a family history of YOUNG RAPID recessing so a hormonal fix was very responsive to me

not everyone may respond as good as i did.
