you have to determine for yourself whether you need spironolactone. nizoral is not a substitute for spironolactone- it is much weaker.

yes if you want to irritate the hell out of your scalp and dry your hair you could. it's a lot less effective i think, but i don't have numbers. it's definintely the smallest part of the "big 3". it is also expensive as hell to use it twice a day every day. if each bottle is 7 oz that's 42 teaspoons. each bottle would last you 21 days. 365 days/21 days is a little over 17 bottles a year worth of Nizoral. That's like $260 a year dude.

there is speculation about the mechanism of nizoral, but I don't think it is known for sure. It may be a completely different mechanism. it is not very strong by itself, but at $15 for almost 2 years i think it is worth it. just use 1mL after a baby shampoo pre-wash, once every 3 days. it is a 200 mL container. But 1mL of minoxidil in your hand to see how much 1mL is.

I get generic baby shampoo, 15 oz for a dollar.

i wonder how much they used in the study, and if you need put a lot on to get the benefits.

but after a quick baby shampoo pre-wash, 1mL will lather up your whole head very nicely. And if you want it thicker, you can add an extra mL to the thin areas, so your $15 lasts you almost a year instead of almost 2.

i dont think nizoral will 'protect' the hair on off days. I think if your hair loss has progressed then you could try both nizoral and spironolactone.

I use Nizoral 2% daily and my scalp is fine and in great health (no dry skin/flaking/redness etc). Technically it should be harsh using it everyday but I have used Head and Shoulders daily for years and it doesn't seem to irritate it. My head is buzzed right down and I only use a tiny bit.

When you shampoo with Nizoral, the ketoconazole remains active in the skin for several days. I would not trust it alone as an androgen antagonist though, if that's even how it works.

I have no idea. My guess is that the combination might be more effective for seborrheic dermatitis, but not balding.
