find a different doctor or ask to be referred to a dermatologist

if you definitely have male pattern baldness - and have decided you want to take finasteride being aware of the slight but possible risks - he shouldn't discourage you from taking it unless there are valid medical reasons.

it's shocking the disparity between doctors (especially GPs) when it comes to this issue

he wouldn't even refer me to a derm on the nhs :( he was even bald himself haha. i'll go to a different gp next week.

it's so annoying, all i really want is an actual diagnosis, then i could just start taking generics. don't really wanna do that until it's confirmed, even if i am pretty darn sure i'm balding.

have you looked into seeing how much a private derm is?
he said around £200. treatments are a stretch as it is for me, can't afford that. on tuesday i went to some crappy clinic place and somebody not particularly qualified told me there was some follicle shrinkage around the temples. it could maybe just be mature hairline but my dad was bald by 30. shall i just start taking finastride?

There are ways of getting it *coughshopcough*

Best of luck. It's only a matter of time until I'm forced to tempt fate as well

took my first pill today. optimistic i won't shed too much because i've acted early and most of my hairs are still in good health. like, i imagine someone with absolutely no receding wouldn't shed at all. does this sound about right?

Its different for everyone. I didn't shed when i started a couple years ago, but I had to stop for 2 months for bootcamp and upon taking it again immediately shed like a beast. Shedding however is typically a good sign of your responding to the drug, and it usually comes back soon.
