Doctor said not to use Propecia w/ Rogaine

Hey everybody. Last week I went to a dermatologist for hair loss advice. He gave me a prescription for Propecia, but when I asked about using Rogaine with it, he said he wouldn't recommend it. If I want to try to regrow a lot of lost hair, shouldn't I be using both of them? I've got a bald spot quickly coming in on the back, and maintaining what I've got isn't going to make that look any better. Any advice?

Hey monkeydude, there is no reason you can not use both if you want, was there a reason he wanted you to wait before adding minoxidil?

Your Dr. may want you to try using propecia first to see what kind of results you get, no reason to start taking minoxidil and tie yourself to applying twice a day until you see what propecia can do for you. I'd give propecia a try and then start on minoxidil.

Dermatologists are pretty much at the bottom of the pecking order and with comments like that, you can see why.

He didn't really give a reason for not using both, he said "I wouldn't recommend it, at least not now," so maybe it was to see what Propecia could do alone. I've got a follow-up appointment in May, so I guess I'll give it a shot by itself until then. Thanks for the input, everyone.

You need to get a proper answer, if he cannot provide it then you should see another dematologist because he is a bad egg and should be avoided.

minoxidil in combination with finasteride is more effective than one of them separately.

BUT it's not bad just to see what finasteride does to you first, before you start grabbing other meds.

Try the finasteride out for 6 months to a year if it works, great then at least you still have minoxidil left in your armoury for later years. male pattern baldness is a fight for life or until they find a cure!
