Have you thought of dyeing them? I think a med brown dye wouldn't affect the color of the rest of your hair very much. Maybe an all-natural dye would be the most gentle, so as to avoid messing with a possibly delicate proccess.

who is Dr. Lee? Is he the online guy?

Yeah, Dr. Lee is this guy out in California and people seem to think he is legitimate. He has all kinds of products and he does seem to know what he is talking about, at least much more than any other derm I've spoken to. I can't remember his website but everybody else here will know it. It might be xandrox.com.
