Does an itchy scalp indicate hair loss

I've been on rogaine for the last 4 months, and for most of that time, I have endured the dreaded "itch." My only hair loss is at my hairline, however I have also been applying a bit of rogaine to the swirl at the crown as i sometimes fear it's a little bare (i.e. I can see the scalp through my hair a bit on iphone camera pictures, leading me to sometimes think it is thinning). The itching is mostly at the crown, with a little at the hairline too. I also sometimes get the itch in places where I didn't apply the rogaine.

My question is, is itching ever a leading indicator for hair loss? Or do you guys think the itch is 100% from the rogaine. I haven't applied rogaine to my crown for the last 3 applications (1.5 days) to test to see if the itch goes away. It's still there. Also, what's up with the occasional all-over itch, on areas where I didn't apply? Does this mean those areas are poised to thin out soon? Thanks all.

Do you have a family history of aggressive hair loss? Did you have this scalp itchiness before the treatment? If not, you'd better stop Rogaine for a few days to see if that is the culprit. But I think it's most likely DHT attacking your follicles which means your hair will be thinning out all over.
