Does anyone think minoxidil has made their hair loss worse?

and no I'm not talking about temporary 'shedding'.

I've been using the 2.5% minoxidil for the front/sides of my hairline for about eight months but it didn't seem to be working...when i shaved my hair recently I was a bit shocked to see that the pattern had progressed further to where I had been using the minoxidil as a preventative measure. I don't know if this would have happened anyway but it does make me think whether I'm just not suited to the drug. People have said i should try 5% but I dont want to if it's going to accelerate things. Saying that, I dont have much other choice as I really didn't want to have to use Propecia because of how it alters the bodies sex hormones.

Thanks

Propecia had this effect on me and made my hair loss worse (apart from the crown) been off the drug for 2 months now and my hair hasn't gone back from how it was before. You can never trust these hairloss products. I would say wait longer, but you can never be sure if that is the right way to go.

With minioxidil, I'd continue with it since it isn't messing with your hormones and that.

minoxidil 2.5%? Never heard of that solution. I know they have 2% and 5% and then some speciality mixtures have percentages above 5%. I would say that the 5% minoxidil solutions I have used have improved my hair, not made it worse.

I think that it could just not be working for you, rather than making it worse. It was going that way before Rogaine after all.

Ive been on the big 3 for past 3 years and my hairs just gone from maintainted to little worser at the front hair line. But I do get the feeling that rogain foam just made things tad worser...

Was hoping id keep what I had there or at least slight improvement !

this is the worst thing using finasteride/rogain and nizoral shampoo can either help or not help, some people keep saying u cant expect results within 6 months let alone 3-4 years... everyones hair loss is different.

Ive decided to give the big 3 till end of this year but if I dont see any improvement on maintainence/improvement early 2012 im quitting the lot lol

Perhaps ill try a different treatment will see.

I"ve been on the big 3 since September so about 7.5 months. Ive been putting the foam along my hair loss and I think it has made my hair loss slightly worse. Somedays I think its working, then other days I dont. I think its been breaking my hair loss up as its not as thick as it was. I think Im gonna stop using it on the front as it appears not to be working. Im about a Norwood 1.5 so hopefully the finasteride will help me maintain that.

I posted a similar response above, but yes - I do think rogaine has made my hair worse.

I never had any shedding prior to using it and now my hairline (only area where I apply it) loses several thick long hairs every day in the shower, and when i style my hair or apply rogaine the morning and at night. Overall, the entire frontal area is significantly thinner now than it was 6 months ago before I started. I don't know if I should continue to give it time in hopes that those hairs grow back or just assume I am one of the people that rogaine doesn't work for.

I am in the same situation 6 months in. How did u decide? You gave it more time or stopped?

I personally think that minoxidil (alcohol related) products are drying out your scalp. I compare hair with a plant. When the soil is not good, you will never get a good growing plant.

Im a t 3 months just using at temples. I want to stop but im scared idk what to do. Finasteride works great for me and i should have never added rogaine...I only apply a pea sized amount once a day on temple bumps and i cant believe how much thinner it is. Im really really upset over this. Is it safe to stop after such a short time? Ive only used less than a half a one month can over 3 months... I just thought maybe id get a tiny boost at temples or no change, instead i got this...

Because it ruins the soil?
No do not drop minoxidil. Maybe PPG free minoxidil is a better choice? I think that moisturize your scalp is important. When your scalp is very dry (dandruff)i think that is not good for hair growth. But again that is my personal opinion. I use coconut oil every week to avoid dryness on the scalp.

I applied minoxidil only 5 times and and the little hair I had left has fallen out almost completely. People say that a shed is normal and you have to give it time but it really shouldn't be like that. I've got this ridiculous rash all over my scalp and hairline. I actually tried Propecia years ago and stopped using it because of the shedding. The hair that I immediately lost never grew back and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same this time.

I get the feeling that on these hair loss forums there are people who are paid to leave positive feedback. Drug companies obviously know that people with hair loss are going to come here to try to find a way of reversing it so it's in their interest to get as many posts recommending their "treatments" as possible". If people had benefited from Propecia and minoxidil, I don't really understand why there are so many of them on here talking about how great they are. If it had worked for you, it's likely you'd just stop posting and then carry on with your business as normal.

Using it 5 times and complaining about results is retarded. It's not just "people" who say a shed is normal it says it on the instructions/website for rogaine. It's part of the process. If you've got a rash then maybe you had an allergic reaction to it, but even that I doubt. That hair likely won't grow back unless you continue using it.

I think that if you use it sporadically it does make your hair loss worse. It resets the hair cycle causing early telogen, but then the hairs grow back in a weakened state or not at all if you discontinue use while DHT is attacking the follicles.
