Hi all. Ok, I have this friend who on somedays is so happy cheerful full of humor and then a week or two passes and he suddenly changes and becomes grumpy. I ask him whats wrong and he says he is losing his hair he says he saw himself in the mirror this morning and he isn't happy about the way his hair looks even though I keep telling him dude you're a perfect norwood 1 no recession or anything but he won't believe me. Then a week or two passes and the same thing he is happy and everything because his hair looks perfect since he saw himself in the mirror and saw nothing wrong.

So my question is does BDD keep flaring as I believe he may have BDD

100%. My mood is often/always correlated with how good I feel I look on that day. A flaw stands out to me and I can't stop thinking about it or focus on anything else.

definitely for me. I would go through periods where I would drive to uni only to turn around to go back home and obsessively examine my flaws in the mirror. It always alternated between my hair and body. So f*****g draining, I am much more at ease now.

Its an obsession that feeds itself.

I would avoid mirrors

Yes...was just diagnosed. It's crazy because we sufferers essentially don't know what is real and what isn't. But yes terrible hair days can precede great hair days - and it's likely all in the mind.

I don't know about remission, but it definitely flares up to a more unmanageable, all-consuming degree. Other times you can keep it in check.

If you know how to suppress it and focus on anything but yourself, you might be able to function normal. Most BDD sufferers constantly need positive validation for them to feel good about themselves. If they don't get enough of it, they will get depressed or suffer from anxiety. But even, if you don't have BDD, you will have good days and bad days. Such is life. Life will always throw you a curveball just when you are on top of the world. For me, if I have a break out or a bad hair day, my BDD tends to intensify for moments thru out the day if I catch myself glancing in the mirror. And if I have to encounter too many chads or people with elite hair genetics, it might intensify too. It tends to let up when I see balding men, short guys, or people with bad skin. BDD and self esteem go hand and hand.

At least old age is a cure for BDD - you really will be ugly when you're old.

I think the only cure is death. Just ask Michael Jackson. Hey you want to perform an online forum seance and talk to the King of Pop and Plastic Surgery?

He didn't just do it for aesthetics though. He had a skin condition as well

I believe vitiligo would hinder your aesthetics enough to justify some of his cosmetic procedures so indirectly it was about aesthetics.
