Yeah a weak one, orally its causes serious liver damage but topically it slows down male pattern baldness for some, more of an addon for treatment.

Nizoral shampoo is also kinda harsh on your hair and scalp. Especially if you have dyed your hair.
The blue colored OTC Nizoral 1% wasn't all that bad of a shampoo, but the pink colored 2% which I recently got really strips all remaining oils from my hair and scalp and I think it may even be leaching the dye pigment out of my hair at an elevated rate. I might consider cutting back to once a week on the Nizoral since I've started the topical Estrogel though. I think the oral AAs I'm taking make the weak topical AA effect of the Nizoral a moot point, but the anti-dandruff effect from it does work well on me.

There was a thread I read once where a guy used 2 percent nizoral everyday and maintained for 2 years.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I started taking it and the first few days my hair felt much thicker but after a week or two it looks like it made my hair worse, is that possible?

I've use it because I used to have very light dandruff even before male pattern baldness and I figure I might as well keep using it, works very well. A lot of people say they hate how it dries out their hair but I actually like how it makes my hair feel, not too dry but feels good. Don't think it noticeably helps with hair loss but it does help my overall scalp health

Ya same dude I use it everyday and my hairs fine. and if your hair dries out just use conditioner?
It also sucks as an antidandruff shampoo though.

I think there might probably be several different causes for different types of dandruff and the different products work differently on whatever the particular cause is.. For me the 1% Nizoral cleared up my dandruff too. I just recently got a bottle of 2% and only used it twice so far. Some people have good luck with the OTC shampoos like Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, coal tar or salicylic acid containing products. I've just been continuing using the Nizoral since I was using it before I began HRT, and just continue it since it is keeping my dandruff at bay especially since HRT has dried up most of the oiliness my scalp used to have before, but the AAs I'm taking internally as compared to any tiny AA effect Nizoral might have is like comparing a Daisy Cutter to a firecracker. I suspect that maybe the slight skin irritation the Nizoral produces is causing more Minoxidil to get absorbed into the scalp and that's why it's part of the "Big 3" ???

I feel like Nizoral doesn't get enough praise. I used to use it once per week and some weeks got lazy and forgot. Then I decided to start getting a little more serious and started using it every 3 days without fail, and leaving it in for longer. I have since had several very obvious new hairs going terminal from vellus in a place on my right temple which was previously barren of hair.

P.S. I did not start/change anything else in my regimen at the same time, Nizoral is the only thing that changed.
