For me it had the opposite effect. Compensating for the lack of hair with a good body. BUT I was only 19 at the time it started so I was in a good position to get into the whole working out scene.
I can imagine if you started losing hair in your 30's it would be too hard to start thinking about altering your lifestyle to get buff. :gay:

It's half and half, depending on mood !

one day I will be thinking "wtf is the point, painting a pig", the other day I will think "I have to get fit or I will be a stereotypical fat bald guy"

When I was losing my hair, it increased my motivation to get in shape. My thinking was that if my body looked good, it would take attention away from the fact that I was losing my hair.

Working out also helped me to take my mind off the fact that I was losing my hair.

Yes. Although its more the bad hair transplant than being bald. Just being bald it would , but not nearly as much.

definitely for me hairloss was my motivation for working out
in fact im not sure if i wasnt losing my hair that i would work out.

i guess im just one of those people that coast in life and work at something only when they must.

Not really but I have never felt the need to look like that dude from Twilight. I just feel being fit and by that meaning regularly weight-lifting, running, trying to eat healthy and just being active is the most important thing.

I'm 6'2 and weigh naturally 142 pounds. I'm trying to gain weight via Rippetoe's weightlifting program, up to 155, my goal is 180 by the end of September, and 200 by the end of January next year.

Losing hair is kind of a motivation, but I just want to be bigger anyway. It's time to stop looking like a little kid.

I workout because i like the feeling after a workout. Love gaining weights or to just jog for 20 min+. The body is ofc a nice bonus :) It is a hobby for me...

Hairloss or no hairloss, id probably work out as much as i do now

Usually people that are in shape still look pretty awesome, even when bald/balding. So quite the opposite, it makes me more motivated.

My thinning hair gave me the kick to start working out a couple of years ago. I thought, do I wanna be a bald skinny guy, or a bald hunk. It didn't take long to do the math.

It made me want to work out more. Unfortunately, I was in such a hurry to get big and compensate that I over did some of my workouts and injured myself. The injuries have lasted for 10 years and counting, and are preventing me from working out much. Now I just work out for health, and have given up on getting big.

This.
It makes me feel good about myself, so that I have something else to live for besides worrying about my hair.

You want to gain 40 pounds in 2 months? You will probably injure yourself or have other problems, and fail.

I said I weighed 155, and I actually did get up to 175 in those two months (last year if you look at date, lol). However, somethings came up and I stopped working out and I've been hovering around 160 since then. Started back upa couple of weeks ago.

No way! If anything, it had the opposite effect. Not getting in shape because you have hairloss sounds like an excuse more than a justification.

I'm a fitness model and I still have no problem getting gigs with a lot of thinning and recession for a 26 year old.

A lot of females tell me they like the shaved head look, and it looks especially good on a guy in shape. Look at Jason Statham for example.

If anything it made me want to exercise more.

The most frustrating thing was when my hairloss became noticable it was around the time that I started to shed the extra pounds that I had built up from an unhealthy lifestyle.

Then I thought, I can't maybe control my hair but I can control everything else try to stay on top of my skin looking good, exercise reguarly eat a good diet and even if I am a baldy - I'll hopefully still be in a decent shape.

As a person who was overweight from about 23-26. I'm 28 now. I actually love wearing t-shirts that are a close fit over me. Previously I'd always buy bagging XL t-shirts to cover my flab.

I agree with most other answers on here. That ended up being the result for me. You try to balance your lack of control over your hair loss with control over your fitness level. At least you can control that. I believe it helps put the mind at ease over your hair loss.
