Hiya fellas,

I wne to the store and on the box I read the rogain and the generic do not work on the front. However, I have read on this site and on others that it has helped users on the front. Before i buy, what's the real skinny on it?

I have no loss on top, just da front. help a confussed man out.

Thanks

It works great in the front. It has done very well for me and many others.

When they did the FDA trials they only tested the Vertex (the back of the head). Use it, you will do fine.

If you are fortunate it will work well on the front for you. Many people do have luck with it so if you're looking to regrow something up front, give it a whirl.

I have had some success with using minoxidil on the hairline. But it's not working on the hairline like it is on the crown as much.

minoxidil is definently working for me on the front. Give it a try for atleast 6 months if u r not happy with the results then consider adding soemthing like propecia or topical spironolactone. Good Luck.
Peace,

What the literature says is that Rogaine is for growing hair at the vertex. That doesn't mean it won't promote hair growth in the frontal areas. It does, but it is not as effective as it is at the vertex. So, Upjohn did not include statistics for frontal hair growth to the FDA and the myth persists that topical minoxidil "does not grow hair in the front hairline area".

This is a reply to my same question from Dr Lee.

I added it to my regimen a month ago after seeing major progress from revivogen and folligen. I am only using it at the front, and it cant hurt if theres a chance it will regrow your hair!

the reason why minoxidil would not work on the front as well as it does on the vertex is simple. the hairline follicles die the fastest and it's much easier to save follicles that are still breathing (metaphorically)

it's done sh*t for me... i've been losing more and more hair in the front with time even with the use of minoxidil

Helped slow down my front loss for many years but alas, I started propecia too late to really test the two together on the front.

Bruce, how long did you use minoxidil? Do you still use it? Did it ever lose its effectiveness?

How is minoxidil on transplanted hair? if you stop using it on transplanted hair, will the hair fall out?

I'd agree with zak84, it seems that with hairloss at the front you get the barehead effect, whereas at the back you have the gradually shrinking hairs that turn into a baldspot. This of course can be different for some people how experience this the other way around

Been using minoxidil since around 1986 or so (I think). I still use it (5%). It is clearly not generating any new growth (but it did last year when I added propecia) but it is liklely maintaining a ton of hair.

My hair transplant Doctor advised me to start the minoxidil on day 7 after surgery and said it would speed regrowth of transplanted hairs. It is my understanding that these trans hairs are NOT minoxidi dependent.

BTW-he advised using folligen post transplant too to speed recovery and growth.

Just turned 12 months using minoxidil on the frontal area. Platinum maintenance and decent regrowth. My hair is holding up. Knock on wood...

Yes, years back but alas, over time, the front is the first to go on me.

When I first used minoxidil (started on finasteride at the same time) I only applied it to the front and crown of my scalp and after 8 months the individual hairs in those areas were thicker, and slightly darker, than those elsewhere.

minoxidil kept alot of the frontal hairs nice and thick for the next year but I was still gradually thinning at the front, hence my step up from finasteride to dutasteride.
