Does Short Term Use Of Propecia/finasteride Cause Gyno?

Hi

I started using Finasteride but only lasted a week (8 doses) before the side effects were just too much and I got scared off them.

Side effects included:
  • Pain in testicles
  • Buring pain in breasts
  • Sore Nipples
  • Constant erect nipples
My question is around gyno as when I quit I still had some slight effects still even to this day (24 days since I stopped)

Do you think 7 days on Finasteride is enough to give someone gyno? My breasts look swollen and sometimes still burn a little. And I can certainly feel that they rub up against my armpit a bit more + I do still keep getting erect nipples. Does finasteride gyno keep growing even after you stop? And if yes does 7 days mean you can have irreversible changes and will need to get surgery to get it off?

Or do you think it will go down and this is just enlarged breasts? I was on for 7 days and have been 24 days off.

Please let me know your thoughts

Mine did not fully reverse after quitting. I was left with permanent puffy swollen nipples after a year on Finasteride - the gyno symptoms started within 2 weeks of taking it but I was too stubborn to quit on time. I had to use topical androgens to reverse the nipple growth and I succeeded to a large degree.

The burning and itching means that cells are dividing and your nipple tissue is growing. As long as you did not yet reach the point of firm hard lumps under the nipple the fat and stretching of the areola can be largely reversed by topical DHT. However once lumps form and firm tissue sets in you have no choice but surgery.

In my opinion as soon as someone gets even mild gyno symptoms from Finasteride it's time to quit and consider other options. You reaallly don't wanna have to go under the knife because of stupid sh*t like this. And consider it a warning sign to save you from taking this piece of sh*t med, lest you take it for longer and end up with PFS, like many of us.

Thanks, guys for the good words. I'll hold out and see what happens. Will certainly report back here in another month time and let you know what is happening :). I'll see if I can get hold of some topical androgens if things become worst.

Now just need to be careful of ball ache which comes in every second/third day and sometimes after I ejaculate. Hope this goes away as well over time.

Thanks for the encouraging words

So I get it that you have experienced PFS? Like full-blown PFS? Are you recovered now? Totally?

Man that is fu*ked up! 7 days and it gave you all these sides? Not that I don't believe you, I am just wondering if this drug is actually that bad for some people or pretty bad in general but absolutely detrimental to others.

It's basically roulette. You might be the unlucky one or you could walk away with everything fine. The point is just to be aware that this stuff happens and to more people than the stats make out to believe.

As long as you are aware that side effects can linger for months after you stop then at least you can make an informed decision to take it or not. I've heard it may take 4 months for my hormones to re-balance so I'm just praying that i'll reach that stage and things will even themselves out. I'm going to start taking some herbs that support healthy testosterone production and see if that speeds up the process.

Failing that I will be speaking to high school students on the dangers of taking Propecia/Finasteride
