Hi guys, I am trying to figure out if this is thinning or just my double cowlick. My hair dresser makes fun of it every time I get it cut but she has never said it looks like its thinning. The only hairstyle I can really get away with is spiking it. Here are a few pics ranging from today with no gel to about a month ago with gel. The first pic is the natural direction the hair likes to go.

Yes it looks like diffuse thinning (pic 4 and 5 makes that pretty clear). This type of thinning can be pretty deceptive, as it can go unnoticed for a long time, especially with that hair style. I know because I wore the same hair style, and also started to thin in the diffuse pattern, and nobody noticed until one day my barber said something.

The good news is it's early so there is still time to stop it, and most people at this stage (outside of the hairloss forums) wouldn't notice you were thinning. If it bothers you, do something now.

Thanks guys. I actually got a haircut today and asked my hairdresser if she thought it looked like it was thinning and she said it didn’t look like it. I guess it’s still too early to tell which is good.

I remember about ten years ago I shed a ton of hair for about 2 weeks and thought I may have been balding. I had dyed my hair black a few days before and remember my scalp getting really irritated so I figured that could have been the cause also. I watched my hair closely for about a year and didn’t notice any more change. Is it possible I just thinned at that time and it stopped?

In regards to the redness, what got me really looking at my hair lately was that my scalp has been really sensitive. It has been sensitive since I was a teen but it has been bad over the last couple months. Sometimes there are these small bumps on the back of my head, kind of like pimples. My hairdresser today commented on my dandruff and sold me on a bottle of Nioxin. I was going to have the Doctor check this out and also if my hair was thinning which is why I posted here. Maybe the thinning is related?

One last thing, anyone have Kaiser and know how they deal with hair loss since it is cosmetic?
