Granted no one can give me a definitive answer - but some opinions would be nice.

I have been taking propecia for about 3 months now, and think i am starting to see some effects.

Before - when I used to shampoo my hair I would end up with 20 or so hairs in my hand, from lathering up my head. Now though I dont seem to be seening any at all, or perhaps only one or two.

Does this sound like it is having an effect or that I have simply entered a "growth" rather than "rest phase"?

Thanks guys!

well if you were losing a consistently large amount of hair prior to propecia, then three months in this consistent amount was dramatically lowered, as you said, id say its a pretty good sign things are lookin up 4 u.

:D yay hay! ... thanks ... made my day/week/year.

I dont know enough about this whole "rest phase" thing - would that stop me losing hair? or CAUSE me to lose hair in cycles to be more accurate?

it probably made your decade. if you use finasteride in early stages of male pattern baldness, you will keep most of what you have for a considerable number of years.

seems like it is working just fine and dandy for you. Continue it and you shall see the full effects of propecia.

Your hair as a whole never enters a growth or rest phase (no need for the quotes, honest)

The "hairs" on your "head" are always "cycling" through growth, rest or falling. Some will be falling whilst others are growing, whilst others are resting, the average head has a healthy mix of these stages.

There is a condition (Telogen Effluvium) where a large number of hairs have synchronized and you get a big shed.

Fingers crossed. It also means I can get a small FUE within the next year and hopefully get back to square one ... thank GOD ... but I wont count my chickens yet ... but pretty pleased so far.

Thanks! So basically - the rest/growth phases will be different for each hair - so there being no uniformity - and cessation of hair loss should be down to something else, like the propecia?

Thanks

Yes that's about the story, on average 100-150 hairs a day will be shed by a healthy non male pattern baldness head, so I would guess on average around 100-150 hairs (out of many tens of thousands) will be cycling in sync, the following day will the turn of the next 100-150 hairs and so on.

There are a few other factors worth considering like sesonal shedding, bouts of Telogen Effluvium, synchronized cycles, alien lazer mind rays and giant sentient spiders living in the center of the earth, but generally yes, it is likely to be the propecia.
