I wash my hair once a week because I am scared of lossing more hair due to excessive washing. I figure if I wash it once a week I won't loss that much. Am I wrong? I have dry hair.

well i dont know. Do you shed alot during washing? Because washing everyday shouldn't affect male pattern baldness.

I don't seem to loss that much. It is hard to tell. I figure about 100 or more hairs everytime I wash. Is it bad to wash it every 7 days? Do our follicles clog up if I wait that long?

i do the same, but i usually go 3 or 4 days not 7, and i only do it because i don't have an oily scalp and my hair needs some natural oils in order to be styled properly. 3 days without washing and i can make my hair look pretty good, right after washing it's a struggle.

when you wash your hair once a week, you'll have alot more hairs comming out in the shower that have fallen out days ago but have just been hanging on for the ride. washing your hair every day will NOT make you lose more hair.

I imagine your hair is pretty nappy with that schedule.

Washing your hair will NOT result shedding more hair than you would have otherwise. With male pattern baldness, your follicle is puking up the miniaturized hair. That follicle is not affected by shampooing - it's well beneath the skin of your dome.

Thats gross. You use your hair oil to style your hair. Try some gel.

But it doesn't provide a healthy environment for new growth? Its important to keep the scalp clean to promote this plus nothing looks worse than unwashed thinning hair.

I wash mine every day as I have oily skin. If you have dry skin then 3-4 days is o.k....once a week is not often enough and use nizoral if you can sometimes. You need to keep scalp nice and healthy for growth.

Trichologist confimed that washing does not increase hair loss..if you wash it less then more comes out when you do wash it but overal it will be the same loss.

I do what dietcola does, leave it for 3 days and my hair starts looking great. But I usualy wash it with shampoo on the 4th day.

I dont believe washing hair makes you go bald quicker, I just dont like how my hair looks straight after washing.

I don't necessarily think that not washing every 3/4 days is a bad thing, however i personally wash every day. I can't stand not washing every day and whether or not it impairs my ability to halt and achieve regrowth? I don't know. I know that, technically, you are supposed to have a clean scalp for topicals to work correctly, but unless you coat your hair with gels and other stuff, then its not that big a deal, IMO.

i don't SHAMPOO everyday, but wash daily. a dirty scalp might invite more problems. however, i use mineral water to wash my hair because of hard water in my location. and, i prefer it to be cold, but not super cold, as in 5 mins from the fridge b4 using the mineral water.

You need to keep your scalp clean.

A scalp full of sebum is a breeding ground for naturally-occurring malaseezia yeast, which causes irritation and can synergistically affect the irritative effects of male pattern baldness.

Keep your scalp clean. Although it seems that not washing your hair is more "natural", you need to remember that our bodies have evolved to adapt accordingly.

And, sebum does no good for your hair. It might help keep your scalp moisturized a bit, but hair does not absorb sebum, and sebum has no theraputic benefits on the hair shaft. Sebum, and sweat, are bodily waste products, filled with excreted toxins, that the body has developed mechanisms for which said substances are excreted PAST the waterproof barrier of the skin and onto the skin's surface. If the body has evolved to the point of depositing this sebum crap OUTSIDE of the waterproof barrier, this should be an indication to you that the body really doesn't want this sh*t around us or on us anymore.

great info gardener. Thanks.

I dont know why so many people think we need "natural oils' in our hair anyway. Children dont have sebum secretions anything at all like adults do. Dry-*** hair on kids, and all there.

Sebum is secreted all over the body, and nobody talks about how your skin needs it, or your body hair needs it.

I was always afraid it would be reabsorbed (it has some dht in it) and the androgens in it would re-attack the follicle when they binded with receptor sites.

Did you know that sebum injected in the skin has an inflammatory effect? I read that, it suprised me that they tested something like that, but they did.

Well, I think sebum has a moderately benign benefit of helping keep the waterproof layer of the skin somewhat moisturized, "puffing up" the dead skin layer with lipids to assist in the prevention of microscopic invaders.... but to go from this premise to one of it being a substance of theraputic value is a stretch I do not agree with.
