Dutasteride and infertility - 22 yrs old

I plan on adding in dutasteride 0.5mg only 2x per week. The other 5 days I will continue to use fin1.25mg. Is infertility from dutasteride possible or anyone have any experience with the drug?

You can freeze sperm for like 5 years at a time if you are concerned with fertility.

Sperm concentration and sperm morphology were unaffected. After 24 weeks of follow-up, the mean percent change in total sperm count in the dutasteride group remained 23% lower than baseline. While mean values for all semen parameters at all time points remained within the normal ranges and did not meet predefined criteria for a clinically significant change (30%), two subjects in the dutasteride group had decreases in sperm count of greater than 90% from baseline at 52 weeks, with partial recovery at the 24-week follow-up. The clinical significance of dutasteride’s effect on semen characteristics for an individual patient’s fertility is not known.

Only 2 people have ever reported infertility as occurring possibly due to Avodart. It is most likely that sperm counts return to normal after a few months after discontinuation and everything resumes as normal. May be very difficult to conceive while on the drug obviously with 90% lower sperm.

FDA says infertility may happen (due to lower sperm count) but will return after some time on the drug/its discontinuation

On May, 22, 2014: 8,157 people reported to have side effects when taking Avodart. Among them, 2 people (0.02%) have Infertility Male. They amount to 0.25% of all the 798 people who have Infertility Male on eHealthMe.

Both were in their 40s likely infertile from age rather than the med

Crazy how much sperm count decrease on the drug wow. I am assuming the people in the study are taking 0.5mg per day minimum????

Keep in mind that these are people who voluntarily report side effects and that there are many people out there unaware of that site. I am sure the actual rate is much much higher, given the study you posted

yes, but it is likely even infertility from placebo (naturally occurring infertility) is even higher than the report (.02%). Probably unlikely that dutasteride causes permanent infertility especially when you consider the age range for people taking this drug, most of which in this study were probably taking it for BPH and likely over age 40.

I have no Idea why people would even consider taking this crap. You must feel like a zombie on it. As if you would take anything that can effect your fertility let alone the ability to get an erection.

Well finasteride doesn't affect me in anyway an having 0.5mg dutasteride only twice a week isn't too crazy imo. I know what you mean tho regardless

I have no Idea why people would even consider taking this crap. You must feel like a zombie on it. As if you would take anything that can effect your fertility let alone the ability to get an erection.

Please, I have been on .5mg dutasteride every day for 3 months. Morning wood every morning, random boners all day every day. Have had sex twice and was great in last two weeks. Had a boner even before the foreplay started. Have made muscle gains. Absolutely no sides. It affects fertility temporarily, so who cares I do not want a kid anytime soon. Will get off it for a few months when I do. My DHT is around 8 times lower than the minimum of the normal range, my DHT was already near bottom of normal range to start and now is 10-12 times lower than that (somewhere between 1.5-2.2 where normal is 16-72) Most guys who take finasteride will have serum DHT 5-10 times higher than my DHT levels lol. I am at rock bottom serum DHT

Man you would castrate yourself if you had the opportunity. After reading 1,000's of your posts. We get it.. You don't get sides from Anti-androgens..Congrats. Some people do and you need to be careful with the information you are giving people.
