dutasteride and my hairline

Ive been taking dutasteride (Duprost) since september 2004. I think my hair loss has finally stopped, as i dont get much hairs falling as i used to on propecia. The bad side is, it has made my hair recede badly, at least another 1cm inwards. This is killing me, any suggestions, any one had similar affect with hairline?

I was on dutasteride from Sept '04 until March this past year. Temple recession by at least a cm, and then my dick stopped working for a few weeks, so I stopped taking it. It DID stabalize my hairloss elsewhere, or so it seemed.

This is bullshit. dutasteride (or anything else for that matter) does not cause one part of the scalp to shed hair quicker while stopping it in another. You would have lost that 1cm anyway.

best possible addition to dutasteride is in my opinion spironolactone. as it stands after dutasteride there could still be quite a lot of test left in your scalp, which is harmful to hair also as we know. spironolactone converts it to oestrogen or so the label tells you. would seem the perfect combo

sorry should have specified topical. oh and iamnaked i know anecdotal evidence etc means shite, but i also lost some ground on the hairline in a very short time while on dutasteride. it makes no sense to me and i cant understand why, but the human body is a complex thing, and medicine is part art part science part guesswork. atypical reactions are the norm.

Sorry what I said earlier possibly wasn't the most constructive comment in the world. I too noticed something from my regimen which could very easily be construed as losing ground on the hairline front, but which in retrospect was an optical illusion. Basically, the hair on the sides of my head was a much more enthusiastic responder to my regimen then the temples. The hair at ear level was making a dash to reach my eyebrows, while temple growth was more staid. This was giving the illusion of receding, but I am certain I was experiencing improvement.

Some people have done this with success, because it blocks a hell of a lot more DHT. If your follicles are really sensitive to DHT you may still experience loss, however. As far as I'm concerned, however, the worst that could happen is that the hairloss process could be slowed down.

I know we each have a unique response to these medications but, going from my own experience, 9 months is too soon to be judging the efficacy of Proscar and ditching it for an even more potent drug - with both Proscar and Dutasteride, I had to wait over a year for any significant regrowth.

More info. would be good (this goes for anytime someone asks for advice): what do you mean by "not much results", has the rate of loss slowed, have you shed and not recovered that lost hair, etc; also where on your scalp are you balding/how advanced is it?; are you using any other hair loss treatments. The more complete a picture we have of someone's situation the better tailored the advice can be.

wils you've been on finasteride 9 months. if you've experienced a slowing or even a halt to your hairloss then you should be happy. 9 months is not long enough to evaluate any treatment. deaner and a few others have experienced real improvements in scalp coverage well after their first year on the treatment. many dont see any improvement until after the first year. it takes hair a long time to grow, dont rush it and stick with it
