Dutasteride half life, why take more than once a week?

Hi,

If dutasteride have a half life that is about a month, why take dutasteride more than a couple of pills each month since you will still have it in your system?

I know that there is something wrong with my reasoning and I was hoping that someone could explain to me.

It's very simple. Taking only two dutasteride pills a month won't do you any good, because your blood levels of the drug won't be anywhere nearly high enough to inhibit 5a-reductase to any significant extent.

Yes, you are right. However I am surprised that so many of the dutasteride users take the pill, 0.5 mg, each day. That seems really really strong.

At least people should take it 0.5 every other day but I was then wondering if there is a big difference between each day and every other day specially for such a strong drug with that half life.

Speaking purely from my own experience... Avodart every other day was an improvement on 1.25 mg finasteride/day, but it still couldn't completely halt my frontal thinning; 0.5 mg Avodart/day was another small step up in performance, and for me this happened to be enough extra to stop said frontal loss. That's why I take a daily dose.

and a lower Dose finasteride or dutasteride works good

Just came across this via duckduckgo, its interesting since i had a visible regrowth on small dose finasteride, so a low dose dutasteride could be ok for me. However i see the point about not getting high enough levels in the blood if taken only weekly, but maybe i could reduce to 0.5 once a week for maintenance when my dutasteride level is already high enough, assuming im a good responder? Or 0.5 every 5 days, so im at exactly 0.1/day maintenance dose. Any views?

I think it can depend on the batch. The Duprost gel capsules I got before were not that strong but when the Combutas tablets arrived in the post I think they changed it to a stronger formulation. I would not agree to take this every day, idk if it is that safe even. But Avodart passed all its clinical trials so at least we know that it is not some unproven research chemical where you are a guinea pig.

I was looking at a recent patent and it appears as if they made a suicide in-activator form of dutasteride that can covalently bond to the 5aR enzyme active site. although this is the penultimate compound and not the final product, if amounts of this are in the commercial product, this help in accounting for the difference in observed activity.
