Hey everyone, I'm new to Dutasteride. As of this post, I've currently been taking the medication for only five days. I really need to know these things:

+If a shedding occurs, how long should it last?
+How do I know if I'm a good responder?
+How do I know if I'm not a responder?
+How effective is it for the hairline and hair density?
+How helpful is it really for male pattern baldness?

Me personally, I prefer to read responses from legitimate users of Dutasteride on this thread who have been taking the medication for a while and have had good results from it. Any other advise, information, and suggestions are welcome.

1. 6 weeks - 4 months usually
2. If you get regrowth, there are no early signs that are indicators
3. dutasteride should stop hairloss in almost everyone or everyone
4. Very effective
5. Pretty much a cure for most people, probably

Thanks zzzzz. :) I'm looking forward to getting great results with Dutasteride. Anything else I should look forward to with this treatment?

Should always start with finasteride before thinking of dutasteride for a few reasons : Safety is confirmed, less chance of sides, get your body used to low DHT before moving on to dutasteride, may not need anything stronger.

I did finasteride before dutasteride and that was the worst thing I could have done. People say ride it out give it a year but it was obvious it wasn't working and I lost so much hair waiting for it to work which it never did . I think if your below 25 and are losing hair rapidly finasteride isn't strong enough to halt it as your follicles are extra sensitive to DHT .

Obviously if your slowly losing your hair then I would always advise finasteride over dutasteride

I can see both sides of the argument for/against starting Dutasteride - if you're absolutely sure finasteride doesn't work for you and are aware of the potential sides.

I still don't think starting dutasteride (or finasteride for that matter) is a decision to take lightly, and requires careful deliberation and professional advice if possible. Informing your doctor that you're starting it is a must though.

I understand. But losing hair rapidly doesn't mean you will not respond to finasteride. There are people with severe diffuse loss who have stopped it and grown it all back - on finasteride. I guess I would just be mindful of going for the stronger one. This is a medication for life and I wouldn't touch DHT 1 (which also has nothing to do with hair loss) unless I really had to.

You did it with the right approach even if you feel it was somewhat wrong. Almost 90% maintain on finasteride for 10 plus years, I feel the odds are in anyone's favour.

I used dutasteride 5 years ago. Dutasteride is not more effective than finasteride.

Dutasteride effects sperm and semen parameters very badly.Dutasterice can cause interfertility.(( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17299062 ))

Dutasteride blocks type-1 alpha reductase and role of this enyzme in the body is unknown.

Dutasteride is not approved for hair loss by FDA.

Please don't use and don't suggest this drug.

Finasteride is a very very safe drug for man's health. And very very effective for preventing further hair loss. It works over %90 of men. It prevents hair loss and causes hair grow back.

Finasteride with 5 mg dosage halts hair loss for women.

Well I would say listen to your body if you decide on dutasteride, I mean I take it and my sex drive is still incredibly high and I feel exactly the same not even a little decline in boner strength but everyones different. The key point everyones missed is that sides are reversible if you stop the drug if/when they hit you, its the people that keep going for ages even though they are suffering sides that's the problem. They then come on here and spew anti finasteride garbage like it made me permanenly impotent!! putting newbie's who don't know anything about hair loss off treating their baldness, or hypochondriacs on finasteride that then start to panic if they wake up without morning wood. I didn't effectively treat my hair loss for years cos I was put off my those garbage trolls and it cost me a lot of valuable hair that now only a transplant can correct.

As for sperm that's a rare side effect but if I could choose between hair and having kids then hair will win every time. Believe me they are more likely to cure infertility before male pattern baldness .

I have super sensitive male pattern baldness and it's aggressive, that's why I decided to start taking Dutasteride. Before I started any legitimate treatments, I was losing so much hair that there would be hair all over my bed, and a lot of it would be getting into my mouth and nose making me cough and sneeze. Even though Ketoconazole, Minoxidil, and LLLT have helped me tremendously, I'm currently still having thinning issues. I'm looking forward to the Dutasteride at keeping my male pattern baldness from getting worse and improving my hair.

that doesn't sound like male pattern baldness/Androgenetic Alopecia. did you get checked out for any alternative alopecia?

I have aggressive male pattern baldness, and I knew that's what it was since I have thinning in a NW6 pattern. I even went to a hair and scalp specialist and got a scalp biopsy done to know if there was anything else going and there wasn't, only Androgenetic Alopecia. Miniaturization of the hair follicles were detected, my hair is sensitive to DHT.

Dude I have very aggressive MBP too. It started when I was 16. I started finasteride and stayed on for 5 months convincing myself it was just shedding but it was acctually a gradual increase in hairloss and more miniaturizing.

I dont know if dutasteride is even working for me now. Ive been on it for 2 moths and the hairs I lose are still getting thinner and thinner.

I wish I could talk to someone who didnt have success with finasteride but did have success with dutasteride. I honestly believe that if finasteride didnt work for you than the chances of dutasteride working are like 40 percent or maybe slightly higher.

Anyway good luck to you, if you see your follices thinning even more add a topical like spironolactone or ru

My male pattern baldness started when I was 16 as well. I've never taken Finasteride, I went straight to Dutasteride. I'm using Ketoconazole as my topical anti-androgen. I don't think I'll need to use another anti-androgen because the Dutasteride is suppose to be super strong at maintaining hair.

Damn zzzzz. The way Agustin described it I kept thinking that is crazy. I can't even relate to it. I have a receding hair line late 20's, never experienced that kind of hair loss. Also no obvious shed on finasteride.

How bad is my hair loss? Uh, bad. I have male pattern baldness. I have diffused thinning and recession. I have thinning in a NW6 pattern and have about a NW2.25 hairline. My ethnicity is Hispanic.

I'm really looking forward to Dutasteride improving my hair density and my hairline.

make sure you take pics bro and good luck to you

but to be 22 and only nw2.25 means you dont have extremely aggressive hairloss so dutasteride will most likely help you
