dutasteride on top of finasteride help

So I've been on 1mg finasteride daily for about 9 months now (on top of 5% minoxidil once daily) and my hairline has continued to recede, plus my crown has recently thinned within the last couple of months quite dramatically. I've been considering trying out dutasteride now, but I'm not sure of the dosage and how often to take it.

Would it be recommended to take 0.5mg of dutasteride daily along with my 1mg of finasteride? Any help would be appreciated!

0.5mg of dutasteride a day is the recommended dose. Don't take finasteride in addition. dutasteride does everything finasteride does and more, so taking finasteride in addition to dutasteride is completely pointless.

Thanks man, only crap thing is I've got 90 more tablets of finasteride left. Also say I've had some level of maintenance on finasteride, would those hairs die off when switching from finasteride to dutasteride or will dutasteride just take over and keep them going?

The dutasteride will take over from the finasteride straight away, although it does take a few days to reduce your DHT to a level lower than what was achieved on finasteride. I suggest that you switch straight from finasteride to dutasteride. Once you're taking dutasteride, there's no point taking your remaining finasteride tablets, except perhaps for the first four or five days while the dutasteride is building up in your system. After about five days of using dutasteride, your DHT levels will be lower than what they would have been if you were still using just finasteride, and so there's no point taking finasteride in addition from that point on. The only effect that taking both finasteride and dutasteride together will have on your body is that your liver will have to work harder, which is best avoided.

Thanks for the help lads, just one more think I wanted to ask - when switching from finasteride to dutasteride will it trigger another shedding phase?

I beg to disagree...there is a difference in half life. In addition, the body needs to get used to stuff to minimise chances of sides.
For this reason I will continue my finasteride to complete 1 year or maybe 2 years until its effects start to taper off, then add dutasteride one day of the week while retaining finasteride on rest 6 days. Then up the dutasteride to twice a week after a couple of months. And then...well we'll see I haven't though that far.

I know many others add dutasteride once/twice a week while staying with finasteride on rest of the days...not pointless no I don't think.
