Hi...!!! I dalayed my hair loss by 4 years using finasteride and later dutasteride.for the last seven months I am also on minoxidil. But nothing seems to be working.10 months ago I was shedding thick and healthy hair but now I have been shedding very thin hair. A narrow strip of hair on my mid scalp is seems relatively thick but elsewhere my condition is too worse. The thinning on hairline corners has moved towards crown just with in 2 months. Now I can't see even a strand of healthy hair on my problem area. I am 23 years old and currently on 0.5 mg of dutasteride ( dutas from Dr.Reddy). Shall I switch to dutasteride 2.5 mg now??? Please reply,it would be a great help. Thank you...

Taking 0.5 mg of Dutasteride daily is already quite efficient at suppressing DHT systemically. I myself take that dosage for hair loss and have been doing well with it, no need to take 2.5 mg daily of Dutasteride.

have you tried taking finasteride and dutasteride together? Some people seem to have great success with that combo when they don't with each by themselves.

I've been using finasteride 4 years and did maintain ok with it and then I added dutasteride 0,5mg daily last December and now my hair is thinner than before, not even the crown is responding to the medicine.

2.5 mg suppresses almost 80% of scalp DHT, whereas 0.5 mg suppresses approx 50% from memory. But scalp DHT is not important as such (I think), more about intrafollicular DHT and the suppression there may be similar.

You need a different plan of attack, can be Minoxidil, RU, PGD2 inhibitor, transplant, whatever. DHT inhibition can only go so far in cases like this.

I think 0.5 mg inhibits something like 98% of type 2 5-ar at dermal papilla, which i think it's the most important.
