I've read somewhere (a study) that Finasteride or Propecia has no effect on body hair or any part of the body except scalp. How could this be possible? Because I understand that DHT causes scalp hair to shrink but body hair to grow. If Finasteride reduces 70% of DHT causing noticeable effect on scalp hair, why body hair unaffected?

Another point is if Finasteride shrinks prostate size, hence reduces semen volume. If one stopped Finasteride, his semen volume returns to baseline. I supposed his prostate also returns to its pre-treatment size?

AFAIK, DHT kickstarts the development of body and facial hair as a teenager/young adolescent, among others. We know finasteride shouldn't be taken when under 18, because it messes with your early development. Since most men who start finasteride are already older and have already developed the body and facial hair, it shouldn't have an effect. I think if your beard is still filling in and you start finasteride, the filling in will pause/slow because the DHT causes these hairs to become thicker, and you're blocking DHT production. But once they have become thick, they don't need DHT to stay that way.

This is total bro science, I have never read a scientific source about this particular subject, but I assume it works like that. The effects of DHT on the male body are just not reversible. If they were, finasteride would make our genitals shrink, all body hair disappear and all hair on our heads would reappear. Thankfully they don't.

There is no way on earth the most abundant male hormone testosterone plays no role in facial hair/body hair growth. It definitely is a major player in density/maintaining facial hair. Removing DHT is not going to stop other types of hair in most cases once it starts growing.

I think its possible, but no one can ever say when most of medicine is arguably guessing. No one knows what DHT even does really. We have some vague ideas how it balances some hormones and tissues its found in, but its exact effects vary by person. Welcome to medicine.
I dont think there is any evidence that propecia would prevent all body hair/facial hair, but it could. You can only try it and see.

DHT is a sex hormone. It has a major affect on your libido, your ability to put on muscle mass, regulates the prostate and testes somehow. You also have DHT in your brain.

Which is why people experience brain fog, depression and anxiety when taking it. It is known to regulate your gaba receptors.

It has a lot more functions than we think. It's only bad function is that it is poison to hair follicles on genetically disposed hair loss sufferers, and can contribute to acne and oily skin.

No, it is Testosterone.

Lacey, in another thread you said you experienced Telogen Effluvium when you first took finasteride, and took you 2 years to recover. Did you hair lost come back? Were you shedding heavily during this Telogen Effluvium period, and then suddenly shedding stopped? Did you change your regime? Thanks.
