hey guys been on propecia for about 5 months. initial signs looked promising, after about 3-4 weeks hardly any hair loss at all. i thought, great! its working now just sit back and wait for regrowth. but 4-5 months in im back to square 1. hair loss has returned to pre propecia levels.

full reg:
minoxidil 5% once daily
1mg propecia
nizoral 2-3 times a week
1 nutrient pill daily

anyone else experienced similar pattern in loss? what are my chances of successful treatment? is it still too early? will my loss be reduced again? thanks guys

Well 5 months isn't too too long... Maybe you're going through a shed? I would stick with it. Because at this point if you stop taking finasteride now your hair might go down the tubes even more.

I'd give it the full year- it could be a shed as above poster said.

i have a similar question to nightlife.

how long before you can tell whether propecia is beneficial to you?

i've been on it for two weeks. still way too early to tell. only thing i've noticed is a bit more shedding during shower (maybe due to quitting minoxidil, maybe due to finasteride).

i've also taken pictures, and i plan to take some more a month from now.

the only way i can tell is through pictures right? but should i expect a change after one month? it definately should not get alot worse after a month right?

and i also noticed in alot of your regimens, you use nizoral. why don't you use it every day? and does the % matter? i'm planning to start nizoral soon too, if it helps. how does it leave your hair feeling? sleek and smooth? or quite rough and hard? (problem with some shampoo's is that the hair is left very dry and brittle afterwards, which means i have to use more conditioner).

At two weeks, you've got a hell of a long way to go. Give it a year+. You may not see results for many, many months...so set your expectations accordingly.

by results i mean: hair is maintained. does not get any worse.

good results would be regrowth yes, but it shouldn't get any worse from now right?

(also my nizoral question still stays) read above post.

I agree. Finasteride halted my hairloss almost immediately... totally stopped the shedding. But it took almost 6 months before I started to see results. And by the year point, not only was hair returning, but thickness as well. Give it A LOT more time.
