Effectiveness Over Time

I know this question my have been asked several of times on here, but I am turning 18 next year and am very unsure on whether to start generic proscar...
My hair loss was quite noticable when I have long hair, when my hair is cut short you cannot tell what so ever, unless it is wet or greasy. If I start taking it now, will it loose effectiveness as I get older? My fathers and grandfathers loss on both sides had it quite agressive...

Should I also carry on taking Saw Palmetto while on proscar?

I *think* starting finasteride at 18 is a bit early.

As for effectiveness, i've been on finasteride for almost five years but i'm slowly losing ground again. Still have a full head of hear, so i can't complain.

You can drop the saw palmetto when you're on finasteride.

I think it would be better to get a physicians input because of your age. Assuming you're okay to take it at 18, then get on it if you're already losing hair. When you start to lose at 18, as opposed to 25 or 30, you're likely to lose a lot and go high on the norwood scale. If you can preserve some of your hair now, do it.

Ok... I have started Proscar 5mg... It is the shape of a circle.. I cannot cut it into 5 pieces so I cut it into 4 which means I will be taking 1.25mg everyday.. is this alright?

My only concern is that with the potential side effects of proscar especially impotence and loss of libido, 18 may be a little young to start.

Can I ask why you want to continue taking Saw if it's not helping

I really don't care about my libido to be honest, I just want to keep my hair at least until I reach 40...

I am taking Saw Palmetto because if I suddenly stop taking it, it may cause me to shed more, I'm not sure. I'd just rather stay safe...
