I am 21 years old. Within the past year I have noticed a little thinning on the crown of my head. I shrugged it off and figured (hoped) that it was because of an allergic reaction to something or just temporary (YEA RIGHT). Now recently I notice it's been getting worse faster and it would be stupid for me to deny that my hair is thinning any longer. My dad is bald as all hell so I guess I knew it was bound to happen. Just not so soon .

Anyhow, It is still somewhat unnoticable when it's dry, only when I get out of the shower do I wince at the sight. So I've decided to take some action. After researching for a bit I think the best choice of action would be to start getting on 1mg of finasteride a day so I can atleast try to keep the hair I have. Is this the best choice? I've read of some people shedding like crazy when they start taking. Does this mean it gets worse before it gets better? With the shedding will I be bald for a few months even though Im nowhere close to that bad right now?

Since I'm not super wealthy... I'm looking at getting generic finasteride (finpecia, fincar, etc.) Any suggestions on which I should choose?

Thanks for any help you can give!

As a hairloss veteran, I would recommend Fincar. I've tried everything from spironolactone to a swift kick in the bean bag. They are all the same just that Finasteride grows hair.

So I would recommend a form of Finasteride. I take 1/5 Fincar a day. I bought Fincar from http://www.inhousepharmacy.com . I have used Merck brand Proscar and this Fincar is working just as good.

Good luck

Almost everything in life gets worse before it gets better man. The only way to see through it is to hold onto the notion that it WILL get better.

For what it's worth, you and I were in a similar situation. I'm 26 now, but at 21 I knew I was losing my hair. I had the same, "I probably have hypothyroidism or something; maybe I have an allergy; maybe I have a nutritional deficiency" and every other kind of nonsense. I played that game until I watched my hairline disappear.

Being 21 it's horrible, but by being here you're at least taking the step to acknowledge it and do something about it. Get started now and you'll be much better for it.

I would recommend that you at least go see a doctor for an evaluation. You can then buy the generics online if that's what you choose, but having a doctor's blessing might make you feel better.

Good luck!
