I want to share my story with hair loss and hope this helpssomeone who may be experiencing the same issue. I do not know for certain, but believe I suffered a temporary bout withhair loss due to epidural steroid injections. I had a series of two shots in my lower backa few weeks apart from each other and stated to notice some extra hair lossabout 2 months after the injections. At the time I didn’t tie the hair loss tothe injections so I then had three injections in one day in my neck. One week later the hair was already comingout starting coming out in an alarming rate. The neck injections were extremely painful and I passed out after thelast one. I’m not sure if it was thedrug or the shock to my body or a combination of both that caused the hairloss. I suspect both.
I went thru the usual steps when you experience hair loss(which I had experienced about 10 years prior to this incident (after some footsurgery). I had my hormones checked, (Iam a 50 year old woman) thyroid checked and went to the dermatologist. All my levels and thyroid were fine.
The story ends well although it was extremely stressful. My hair fell out in total for about 5 months. I will share what I did, but honestly don’t thinkanything I did stopped or slowed the shedding. As anyone who has researched this subject knows, you just have to waitout that process of the shedding from the hair that went into the resting phase;I don’t think you can stop it. I do believethe steps I took helped to grow the new hair faster. The dermatologist gave me some DHT blockingshampoo which was supposed to slow the shedding but my hormone Dr. said that isreally more effective for men, but I used it anyways. I did take Xymogen’s Regenemax and Davinci’sHair effects pills (both available on Amazon) that my hormone Dr. recommended. I took them as directed and never missed adose for 2 months and my hair and nails grew like crazy. The only other thing I did was have aTricology scalp treatment at the hormone Dr.’s office. She basically mixed the Tricology serum withmy blood platelets and then used a little roller on my scalp that caused somebleeding and rubbed the mixture on my scalp. She then sent me home with just the serum and I was to apply it once aweek for 4 weeks. I do think between thepills and the Tricology, my hair grew extra fast.
I am now in about month 6 since this whole thing started andmy hair shedding has stopped and the new hairs are growing in. I don’t know for sure if the injectionscaused this, but the dermatologist said it did and that women are more sensitiveto those steroid shots than men. I dothink that was the cause, the timing would have been too coincidental if not.
Good luck to anyone that is going through this, I know it isdifficult. I hope this story helpssomeone. The only other thing I did was pray, a lot!
