Hey my balding brothers :p I have a question for you real quick about shedding. I started on a relatively low dose of finasteride, .25mg per day and kept that up for a good 9 or 10 months, and admittedly I played around with the dosage a bit to find something that was comfortable to work with. I was losing ground, and decided 4 weeks ago to jump on 0.5mg per day. My hair loss hasn't progressed to a point where it was horrible, it is pretty much the same to be honest.

The issue is, after upping the dose to 0.5 recently (this past month), I've shed like crazy! I can pull out hairs easier than ever, and the front part of my hairline is so thin now. I'm not shedding all over, just in MBP areas. The hairs I shed are all sizes, they can be long, or miniaturised, they're all very different from each other.

I'm not gonna panic, because I never expected to regrow, but I'm hoping for the best. Could this just be a reaction to the higher dose, indicating it's doing what it is supposed to?

FYI: I don't want 1mg per day because of cost, not sides.

Thanks! Best of luck to you all!

Why don't you buy Proscar and cut it in fourths ?

Maybe 0.25mg of finasteride wasn't enough to change anything to your condition.
I know studies proved 0.2mg of finasteride was almost as effective as 1mg, but when you cut a 1mg pill of finasteride in fourths, you remove the coating and it may lead to a smaller systemic absorption than the dose you swallowed (maybe 0.1mg instead of 0.25mg for example), which is okay if you take a fourth of a Proscar pill, but not that okay if you take a fourth of a Propecia pill, because 0.25mg is already a borderline effective dose.

Sure, I'd be open to doing that. I'm aware shedding can occur which is why I'm not too fussed really - but I was more concerned about whether my jump to 0.5mg could have induced a shed. I wasn't doing this bad before I changed my dose - I was actually quite fine. :p

Thanks you two :)
