Hey guys, ive decided to fade my head again for the next few months. I wanna do it my self and i got some shears for $25. I wanna do a #1 on top and #0 on the sides. I wanna fade it, does anybody have any tips for me so i can make it look at least half decent? Anybody else here fade their own hair? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yea i do somthing similar to that. I bout a pair of clippers at walmart and do as follows:

I have diffuse thinning on the top so i use a #1 clip and only a 1 clip. theres adjustments on the side of my clippers for how close u want that gaurd(#1) to cut. for the top of my hair i adjust the clippers so it leaves the most that a #1 gaurd can leave and on the sides i make it 1 less then the closest it can cut(theres about 5 different adjustments)

If u use a #1 clip on the top and a 0 on the sides the difference is going to be to much and it'll look funny. just use the adjustments on the side of the clippers

Not to hijack your post, but since my hairloss accelerated, I've been too embarassed to go to a hairdresser, because they will see my hair wet. As a result I cut my hair myself and probably am worse of for it, heh. I was wondering if alot of us feel that way.

refuse2diffuse, thanks for the help. Yeah i bought a kit from wal-mart aswell and i can either make it a longer cut on #1 or the closest cut on #1. I ended up scrweing my hair up and shaving the whole thing at #0 lol but i'll try your advice and use the longer #1 setting on top and closest cut #1 setting on the sides. Thanks again!

I just shave it but i have been thinking of trying that. Having the blade out more gets a closer cut? Or having it drawn in?

the closer its drawn in the closer the cut. think of the metal part that moves as a clip. the closer the clip gets to the part that actually cuts the closer the cut is

I cut most of my freinds hair with fades and designs and all typs of sh*t.Black peps white whatever a good fade will not look right the first day after being cut.I wouldnt advise people to perform there own fades they never look right in the back you probobly end up cuting all the same lenght in the end.If you live in the city there probobly have a barber shop look for one that has a black barber they do it nice dont be nervous of hairdressers they wont say nothin they know that you are aware they can smell it.I used to fade oh I miss those days.
