Failing to understand this (warning: celebrity hairline)

Okay, bare with me here, maybe somebody can explain this to me. I'm looking at pictures of David Beckham, trying to get an idea of how far off my hairline is from that, because I'd be completely happy with that hairline obviously. Now, from the side, his hair looks to have receded quite a ways, but from the front his hairline looks damn near impeccable. I can't understand this! What's the difference between his hairline and the rest of us receders that makes his look okay from dead on?

Edit: I notice a huge difference between mine and his is that his hairline comes in "straight" from peak to temple from the side, whereas mine has slight portions of it that curve slightly higher up, but you can't tell me this 0.5-1cm difference is what makes it... or is it?

Sorry, I had just assumed most of us had already looked at Beckham's hair enough times to understand where I was coming from.

In this picture, I think you can clearly see the recession of at least his left temple.

In this one you can see his right temple, but as you can see even from this angle (not directly dead on), his hairline looks rather intact.

There it is, nearly head on with his hair all pulled back, it looks pretty much fine to me. I just dont' get it, cuz in my mind I'm really not that far from this, but yet it looks so different.

I think the main thing is that he hasn't lost hair from the top of his head. It's just the sides which have a backwards sloping angle. IMO that backwards angle on the sides is actually superior to a straight up and across hairline.

Recession is less visible at dead-on front angles. However, it is more easily visible if the person bends over a little (especially with short hair), and also from the sides.
In that last pic, his right temple recession is clearly visible. Nothing great, just about NW2 I would say. He has a good quantity of hair otherwise.
Cheers,
Arjun

In the spanish ESPN magazine you can get some good looks of his hair, some picts show some weak hair. But from the picts deaner showed, I def dont think he is a Norwood 2 yet.

I have always wondered about this, I think its because he has a slightly big "fattish" (for lack of a better word) head. So from the front it looks sweet. but then looking at the sides you can notice it.

Yea that looks funny you know. He might have had a transplant cuz once your temples go the hairline takes a different shape. Posh is looking good though.
