Like Thinning, I hate running. Who wants the body of a runner anyway. If you want to do some sort of aerobic exercise, do one that uses a lot of energy in short spurts like sprinting, boxing, etc. rather than an exercise that requires endurance like running long distances.

Me too. I can't stand it. So what I do is get on a treadmill and put it on the biggest incline that it allows. After 15 minutes you get a very good workout and your drenched.

I find that running two miles on a track, which takes me about 15 minutes, then doing 200 meter sprints, is a pretty good combination workout. On alternate days I do resistance workouts that concentrate mostly on upper body.

you need something with a cortisol blocker, but most fat burning pills hydroxycut, etc are a waste of money. Some people swear by taking green tea capsuls as well, so good for your hair and body.
Cortisol is a stress hormone, if your fat isnt caused by an increase in this hormone a cortisol blocker is going to do nothing.

Granted cortisol levels go up after workout, which is bad, but you are better off drinking a protien chake post workout to give your muscles what they need. Not to mention cortisol increase after a workout isnt going to cause you to get fatter, your muscle gains just wont be as high.

So the truth is a cortisol blocker is a waste of money, like i mentioned earlier most use them for an extra boost of energy pre workout, in order to burn more calories during their workout, in turn burning more fat. Eat right, drink lots of water and exercise and cortilsol levels is a non factor. The only time cortisol is a factor is if your a fat lazy stressed out bum, and even then a cortisol blocker wont make you thin alone.

Thinning...very interesting...I have read that eating speeds the metabolism. I have also been trying to lose the lower ab fat by running &about 1500 cals per day but can not lose it. Plus I lift 2-3 times per week. Got to eat more it looks like!!

How old and what is your weight and height?...just curious.

My god you are starving yourself eating 1500 calories a day. Your body is burning its muscle to protect its organs and vital tissues.

Dump the running, get to the gym and double your intake of calories, especially protein. I eat all the time though, right when I wake up, before I go to work, a mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, late evening snack. Pretty much every 2-3 hours Im eating.

Im 33 years old, 6'1" 185lbs. Its funny though, when I wear a tank top people are like, "Dude you are getting huge! What are you like 205 now?" Thats cause if you keep your fat down, your muscles look bigger. But you dont look bigger in street clothes.

let me clarify, What i meant by saying cortisol, is that a cortisol blocker was one of the very few fat burners that has been shown to do something in tests. I have read this in a few articles through mens health, fitness magazines, etc. I surely know just taking that would not make a person thin alone that would be ridiculous, which is the reason I never said that alone can make you thin.

True, overall fat burners are kind of a waste, very minimal results, at most with a healthy diet and exercise maybe a couple extra pounds in a month. Not to mention the caffiene pulls water from the muscle so you have to drink even more water to compensate.

Go to vitamin world and get the precission engineered whey protein, for the price it cant be beat. Mix it with milk and it takes like strawberry or chocolate milk, if you dont want the extra fat in milk mix it with water.

Also if you are using creatine, and decide to go with a fat burner make sure to take them about an hour apart, caffiene can have an effect on the creatine performance enhancements, although caffiene wont hinder the muscle growth enhancments of creatine.

Here is what i do, in the morning, i mix 5 grams of creatine in with my protien shake, then i go to work take a couple lipo 6, then around 4 i take 2 more. I go home and work out. Post workout i mix 5 grams creatine with powerade powder for the dextrose, gatorade powder will also work, it helps deliver the creatine to the muscle. Then i drink a protien shake mixed with skim milk. After this bottle of lipo is gone i will not buy it again.

I've been making protein shakes for years and still do but the Met-Rx RTD-40s cannot be beat. They're so convenient and they give you great protein without the fat or the carbs. The banana flavor is my favorite (I'm a fruity guy, what can I say) but chocolate is good too. Just pack 'em in your bag for breakfast, lunch, or in your gym bag for after your workout.

Yeah, I used to pick 'em up at GNC and drink one for breakfast everyday. They're pretty cheap at about $3/can. But if you use your GNC card and buy them on sale, they're ridiculously inexpensive. I think I bought a case of 24 for like $30.

For protein powder (to make your own protein shakes), I recommend the Optimum brand. Just don't get the chocolate mint since it has a lot more fat than the double chocolate or strawberry. You can get this at GNC but it's cheaper on http://www.bodybuilding.com.

Ephedrine was some good stuff to burn off fat but now it's illegal. I didn't like the side-effects from it anyway -- it raises your heartbeat causing insomnia, dry mouth, and for some people, chest palpitations.

The ephedra-free stuff is just an overload of caffeine with yohimbe. To get the same effect, you can just drink some coffee or slam a Red Bull. Pretty worthless if you ask me.

Can't believe you are keeping the fat down eating the 3500 calories :freaked: ...I think I need to eat more. I am pounding out the weights and taking the protein powder plus running but trying to get the lower abs to flatness & 6 pack. Hard to lose the handles and the lower abs. That's the goal now till spring. Gotta go eat!!

I work out really hard at the gym for one. I mean no BS, I come back drenched in sweat, can barely use the muscle groups I worked. I dont want to sound cocky, but I dont think Ive ever seen someone at the gym that works out harder than me.

I think when you work out that hard your body needs to devote a lot of resources to recover.

Also my body type is thin. When I stopped working out for a couple years, I ended up 150lbs at 6'1" tall.

Honestly I dont think 3500 is that much, you guys who think you are eating less than 2000 might be suprised when you add up everything.

I work out about 2 hours a day doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu so I need all the food that I can get. Usually I consume about 4000 calories and it's actually probably not enough!

When you start to lift weights and gain muscle, your resting metabolism goes up (you burn an extra 70 calories/day per pound of muscle). This means your body is just burning fuel just to keep up the muscle and so you compensate by eating more. Also, this is why it is easy to shed weight after you've put on a lot of muscle while on a high fat/high protein diet. You basically just have to cut down on the food and because you have so more muscle, the fat melts away.

So, to keep it short, you have to eat in order to lose fat!

Well its pretty clear how I can get cut at 3500 calories a day.

If my natural bodyweight is 150lbs, and Im 185 with the muscle Ive added via lifting, thats an extra 35lbs. Thats an extra 2450 calories a day. So if my normal intake is 1500 calories at 150lbs to support my vital tissues, I require 3950 calories to maintain my weight at 185.

So if I eat 3500 I lose weight.

Since you guys brought up protien bars..i was wondering.....

If i eat a protien bar once during either my break at work or just at my house........will it have a noticable effect on building muscle?

It wil help some, if you figure a protien bar with at least 15 grams of protien, over 30 days. That an extra 450 grams of protien in a month, thats 3 or more extra days intake of pure protien. It will help keep a steady input through out the day up until workout, and then drink a protien shake after.

Supplements are kinda like hairloss products in a way, Its not a cure all but in the long run the results will be better than had you not took them. Once you find out what works for you keep with it and stay consistant. If you switch up to much you body wont know what to do with the extra and it will just become waste.
