Finally Have Prescription Almost Ready To Take The Plunge With finasteride!

So I finally got the prescription for finasteride, my doctor said he had used it himself he said some men have regrowth, some don't pretty standard we all know this. He didn't talk much about it maintaining. But he didn't sound fully confident in the drug preventing hair loss, he said that the evidence is not that strong. But he has prescribed it to a lot of men.

So I think I'm going to pull the trigger and I just have a few questions:

1. Is 1 mg a day necessary?
2. I had a disabling accident, I actually already have erectile disfunction and no sensation down there with this be a huge concern to some of you? Basically I wouldn't really know if it was causing problems with my erection etc.
3. finasteride haveing permanent effects on erection quality and libido, my doctor wasn't worried about this at all he said once you stop the drug the side effects if they do occur will go away, which seems to be the general consensus. But it seems many people on here have expressed that it affected them permanently, which has made many of us hesitant. The one large study showed this was less than 1% occurrence, but with how many men that have said this I feel that number may not be accurate; however in my opinion I honestly think most of the people suffer from "PFS" are just suffering from severe depression or something else which will definitely affect libido and erection. What is your guys opinion on post Finestraside syndrome?

4. Has there been any indication that long-term use of the drug can have any negative on the prostate?

5. Can finasteride actually make your hair loss worse?

6. And finally I'm catching this pretty early I mostly only see the hair loss and thinning in my right temple it has receded a lot more. overall my hair looks pretty good. It's long curly, and pretty thick especially on the left side, recently I have been noticing more hairs on my white shirt although when I shampoo I don't notice any hair on my hand only when I comb and it would be less than 20 hairs total. What is the likelihood that this will be beneficial for me?

Obviously I plan on using keto shampoo, minoxidil and actually derma roller on the hairline as well.

The first three, and the last picture are all after a shower and having my hair combed back as much as possible. The others are all dry taking a six months ago when my hair was a little bit shorter but still considered long.

Your hair looks fine to me. Starting propecia may or may not thin your hair it's a crap shoot. I say min foam on hairline and temples/temple points. Dermaroll hairline once a week with 1.5 mm. Don't use min for 24hrs after dermaroll.

You can clearly see that the right temple has receded quite a bit especially with my hair pulled back. I do use minoxidil twice a day only on the hairline. Are you not supposed to apply it right after a derma roller? I thought that was the whole point to get the minoxidil deep in for absorption?

So finasteride can actually make your hair worse?

Yes finasteride can cause many sheds that can take some time to recover to baseline but like I said it's a crap shoot and you may not shed at all.. and as far as dermarolling you don't want the min to go systemic so I wouldn't apply while scalp is still raw..frontal recovery is the most elusive as I'm sure you know..best of luck

1. Not necessarily, a lot of people micro dose. It's thought that .5 is sufficient by many.

2. You don't have sensation in your genitals?? I guess you could use ejaculate volume or testicular pain or libido changes to monitor sides.

3. I agree with you and I think PFS is mostly psychological/a manifestation of depression.

4. finasteride is thought to lower your chance of developing prostate cancer, with the caveat that there is some concern it could exacerbate one type of high grade prostrate cancer.

5. Not sure if finasteride can make your hair worse. Many seem to report that it doesn't help with the hairline much.

6. Can't really predict how or if you'll respond. I think people think propecia is this massively powerful thing, whereas in reality I'm of the opinion that its effects are pretty negligible, which is why there's such variance in people's reviews of it. Most of it is just projection.

Don't do it OP. I am completely impotent after 4 weeks of usage. I also have debilitating cognitive and neurological side effects, muscle atrophy, shrunken genitals.

You are playing with fire. Russian Roulette with your life.

This drug can destroy and debilitate a man.

It will shrink your prostate, as it was designed to do.

But it's your life and your call.

I would use ANYTHIN else, topical finasteride, RU58841, Minoxidil, hair piece.

If you wind up with PFS like me you will not care about your hair loss because you will want to hang yourself by a nearby tree.

This drug can cause suicidal ideation. The actual urge to kill yourself. I ain't shitting you.

I was in your shoes, depressed about my hairloss, took the plunge and it all backfired and blue up in my face.

You are risking permanent impotence.

If I can stop one guy from making the same life altering mistake I did.

I hope you understand the risk you are taking...

Not worth it, wasn't depressed before I took it, got genital numbness after four days that still hasn't gone three months later. I would give right arm to go back and put that sh*t in the bin. Not trying to scare you but I avoided stories about sides because I didn't want to put idea of them in my head, never even heard of numbness before I started, be careful man.

I am a very small minority that floods these forums with paranoia...

OMG.. Ban this guy already!

This is the kind of sh*t that paranoid me and stalled my treatment.

I have been taking Propecia at full dose for 3 years now and am soo disappointed I didn't start earlier.

This x1000

It's people like this who scared me out of taking this sh*t 1-2 years earlier, I'd be much better off

This is a hairloss treatment forum. He needs to go back to propeciahelp. We don't need some guy running around scaring people out of one of the most effective treatments for hair loss on a hair loss forum

I would stringly recommend getting your DHT levels checked first. That will give you some insight as to why you are losing hair. If your DHT levels are low that means your hair follicles are very sensitive and finasteride might not only do nothing for you, it could accelerate hairloss, so yes, finasteride can absolutely worsen hairloss. I honestly believe that bad reactions to finasteride are related to dosage, not everyone needs the 1 mg (plus there is almost no benefit to taking anything over .5 mg). Also, finasteride can alter your path of hairloss, say you take it for a few months, get sides, and quit. Some people do this with no problems, others end up irreversibly jumpstarting their hairloss. Messing with your hormones can definitely backfire in a number of ways. You need to taper on this drug slowly, like a month, to prevent any shocks to your system.

I've been taking saw Palmetto and pygeum tablets just as a start for probably three months. I have never checked my DHT but I imagine even the supplements have a lower and it slightly, don't think I've really noticed a difference with my shedding . finasteride can cause shedding I knew that, but will it not eventually reverse itself and come back thicker. Many people have said the problem is people don't stick it out through the initial three months when the shedding takes place and they basically get scared off before anything positive can take place

People repeat stuff that they've read. Go to the very beginning of the shedding section and read the many, many horror stories of people that shed and never recovered, people that stuck it out for a year or more. Some people shed and have it regrow and then some, others just shed with no regrowth, leaving them worse off. I learned a very hard lesson with finasteride, there is what the studies show, what derms say, and then there is the reality, which can be the exact opposite. There are so many different reactions to this drug, both good and bad. I can tell you for sure that finasteride absolutely destroyed my hair everywhere. I have balding areas in weird places like my sides and donor area now. I've been on it now for 2 1/2 years. The worst thing is that it rapidly shrank the diameter of all my hair to a fraction of what it ised to be. They should be even throughout, or, if treatments are working, thicker towards the root. If you take finasteride, look at your shed hairs to see if they get thicker or thinner towards the root. Thinning towards the root is an indicator that finasteride is accelerating your hairloss.

Your hair is like Norwood 2.5 or Norwood 3. yes try propecia its the only real option even if it does carry some risks. Why do so many men use it if its so dangerous as people claim? There are zero alternatives. Just people with bad experiences criticizing it and not offering viable alternatives
The alternatives like RU or topical finasteride are not cut and dry. They each have their own set of issues, and propecia is still far and away the most proven one.

Guys you may not have had any negative side effects yet, but they can hit you out of the blue, years after usage with no sides at all. And that is the point I am trying to make.

Do you plan on inhibiting DHT for the rest of your lives???
