Finally, I Am Officially On Finasteride

So after much going back and forth and then waiting (and waiting) to get my finasteride, I've started today. 5 mg fincar tablets cut into quarters. I want to use this thread as a sort of journal. I may eventually put up before and after pictures of my hair/hairline depending on how successful the treatment is. For now, I'm just going to use this as a way to keep track of what is happening and make it up public so that it may help others.

3/9/16- Used a pill cutter, poorly split my first 5mg tablet into quarters. Very uneven, probably took more than 1.25 mg for my first dosage but as long as it comes out to 5mg for every 4 days I think I'll be fine.

Not too worried about side effects other than the possible increase in estrogen that could come with the possible increase in testosterone. Going to try not to think about it too much.

Don't worry about it too much. I suck at cutting them. Like you said, the 5mg total matters more than how much the increments are.

Good luck with the regiment and I hope you have success. You're doing everything you can now.

Thank you. That's the same way I'm thinking of it. Whatever happens, I am now doing the most I can to halt and reverse my hairloss, and I just have to wait. I honestly feel much better already. Part of the depression comes from knowing your hair is falling out and getting worse and you aren't doing anything to stop the cause. I am already much more positive about this.

I agree man, just know that you're doing all that you can do in your power. Remain positive and optimistic. Good luck and I hope finasteride works for you

Let's see if you pass the "99% of people don't get sides" myth that's peddled in these boards. Good luck to you.

It's 3/19 now....been 10 days since I started. No sides, no change in shedding or anything, but not expecting anything this early.

Is there a safe zone for side effects? I see a lot of people notice sides around 6-8 weeks in. If I make it past 8 weeks with no sides, can I expect to likely be home free?

I also ordered online, it's fincar, looks very official and everything. I'm using a pill cutter to cut into 4ths and I can't get over how flimsy the pills are. They also seem to wilt in my mouth quickly. I have no references but in the back of my mind I can't help but feel I am taking a sugar pill sometimes. Guess I gotta be patient.

Also back to nizoral 2x a week rather than 1. The problem before was that I used both t/gel and nizoral and it was drying my hair out badly. Now it's just baby shampoo + nizoral 1% twice a week. I have no clue if nizoral is doing anything for my balding. I started 3 months ago. It does make my hair look nice, but so does t/Gel by itself. Will mull it over once I finish this bottle of nizoral, probably next month.

I started with .25 and worked my way up. The sides do go away. It just takes like, weeks man. Keep to it.

Just to make it clear, I have absolutely no sides so far. My question was basically when sides usually start to show up.

You're definitely doing a good job at trying to combat your hair loss. But remember if you want to do even more, there is stronger treatments out there ;) also within reason.

@teenbalding get a prescription for generic finasteride, proscar etc. it's much cheaper. I pay under 10 bucks for 180 pills of 5 mg finasteride.

Usually in 3 days, I would not trust an online source for finasteride.

Most cost effective way for me to get it right now. Used a site that has good reviews, has been tested, etc. Packaging looked legit for fincar, pills look legit.

Get your doctor to prescribe you a drug called proscar and order it online. It's finasteride but in 5mg tablets so you need to cut it into 5ths and take 1mg a day. It's 20 quid a pack which will last a good few months compared to propecia which is crazy expensive

On Dr. Bernsteins website, where the pictures of medical regrowth/no hair transplant, were taken, guys did
better on the 1.25mg dose (actually, the majority of the 51 patients were cutting 5mg as well).

You never now. Maybe five quarters is better than one milligram.

Interesting. I have read effectiveness of finasteride pretty much drops off after .75mg.

In other news, noticed a bit of ball ache tonight. COULD be sides. Not sure. Will update in a few days.

Glad you started. Too bad you were a scared little girl for so long are now an NW3.

Youre gonna need a transplant or will be force to lay down and rot.

I lost maybe a like a quarter of a Norwood since actually coming to terms with my balding 3 years ago. I had been receding for years to a Norwood 2.5 and didn't notice. I think I'll be OK without a hair transplant if finasteride thickens me up a bit.

A little over 2 weeks on this now: nothing new to report really. I took pictures of my hair the other day because I never took baseline pictures. My hair had gotten worse off than I want to admit. Will post before and after pics if I wind up having great success. As for sides, I do notice VERY MINOR ball ache at times, but nothing serious or consistent. I noticed that less hair was coming out in the shower one of the days, but as few days later I was back to the usual rate of shedding. Not sure...maybe my scalp naturally sheds a lot, or maybe the shedding will taper off, or maybe I will go through the dreaded finasteride shed soon? Right now, it's as if I am taking sugar pills. I gotta just be patient and keep taking the quarter pill every night. I'll report back in if I have major sides or anything else before I hit 4 weeks.

The ball ache and semen will eventually subside and go away completely.

Where did you get finasteride from? I asked my doctor for a proscar prescription but he wouldn't give me it.

This june ive been on finasteride for 3 years, i used to use a pill cutter for my 5mg but now i just take the pill and take a bite and wash it down with water. Works like a charm.
And if youre wondering, my hair is better now at 27 than it was 3 years ago.
