So I’ve toyed with all of the above before- min on and off for a few years, finasteride but only topical for a few months.

But I’ve decided the hair loss is too severe and it’s time to get serious.

So I’m about one month in now of oral finasteride 0.5 and two weeks min & dermarolling. I’m shedding a scary ammount. Whenever I’ve tried treatment in the past I’ve never had any gains.. so I’m skeptical this shedding will lead to any gains but who knows. Has anyone got worse to get better? Cause this is the worst my hair had ever looked.

I’ve had slightly less strong erections, but that doesn’t majorly bother me. I still get the job done and enjoy it. Aha.

Since starting min, I’ve noticed my scalp looks red in some places (not all), it doesn’t particularly itch- but it looks red. To my knowledge I never had this before when using min- so I don’t know if it’s with it being in conjunction with finasteride or the effects of finasteride? Should I be worried about this- should I be doing something about this?

I’m one month in and definately feel like I’m in the shed. Hair hair hair everywhere. What I will say however, is before it seamed that my hair was very kinky, frizzy and fried.. though my hair feels thinner and my hair line is definately taking a beating.. it seems that those fried frizzy hairs have shed..

is this a good sign? Or is this excessive shedding.. in pictures you can see my hairline taking a beating.. hopefully this will grow back next month or in a few. 1st pic, 1st month, 2nd pic, second month etc

Thank you In advance for any help!

I didnt even read it. Just start w finasteride. If that doesnt do everything you want within 8 months, then you can add min. Dont even bother w rolling unless youre desperate n at the end of your hair strands.

I know, easy for me to say, but trust me, ive been n worse w my hair. Check out my thread here n youll see my results. Yeah i still take min, but really only for the thickening effect it gives my hair.

It's working give it 8-12 months and then you should really asses minoxidil and derma rolling

Welcome aboard. From my experience, it took me 6 weeks of shedding before I started seeing results. One thing I can advice is you should have started with a short/clean haircut when you started minoxidil (you can still do this, and as a baseline too). Shedding is normal, but the longer your hair, the more it sheds because it is an old dying hair. When it is cut short, the shedding seems not too much because it is trimmed and the old tips of the strands are gone.

In my opinion, start with a routine like: oral finas 0.5mg every other day, topical minoxidil 1 time a day (doesn't matter how many ml as long as you covered the spots you need), and dermarolling once a week.

Take supplements too like biotin 5000mcg (it's cheap), fish oil, vitamin d3, and zinc. This will give nutrition to your hair and skin overall that would strengthen the hair follicles and lessen hair fall. You should go in this all in.

Thanks for your response!

I considered buzzing it, it probs would give me a lot more relief. But right now I still have a seemingly full head of hair so I am happy to keep it a bit longer. I may change that.

As for shedding I’ve gone below baseline, but I do feel that is mostly the weaker hairs that are gone.

You would say it’s worth investing in all the vitamins, I’m happy to do so. Would you say they have a real affect?

thanks again

Based on my experience, yes. You can buy cheap generic vitamins for hair/supplement. I take 'nature's bounty hair skin and nails w/ biotin' supplement. It's loaded with other vitamins to promote hair growth

Just an update and a question! So I’m easily shedding over 100 hairs a day.. however the last two mornings I have woken up to there being lots of hair from back and sides on my pillow... like easily 30-40 (this hair is a different length). This has never happened before? It’s a bit of a concern? What could this be? Freaking out slightly now! Thanks
