Just started finasteride today and am taking one 5mg tablet a week as directed by my doctor. From what I've seen most people take 1mg a day, so I was just wondering if there's anyone else doing the same and have you managed to stop any further hair loss or even improved your hairline?
Thanks

Personally i don't take finasteride (yet), but from what i have read taking 5mg in one go is just asking to get more side effects. However im not a doctor so don't take my word for it. If i was you i would keep taking 5mg per week and if you start noticing any side effects that won't go away than try asking your doctor for a lower dose.

Just my 2p

Honestly, the half-life of finasteride is short, so it would be better if you cut it into 4ths and took 1.25mg every other day (which, by sunday, will add up to the 5mg).

I actually seen another member come on here saying he took 5mg every Sunday and managed to maintain all his hair. I'd definitely take this route if it were guaranteed to be almost as effective

His doctor recommended it to him as well

It should be quite effective. Contrary to belief, the half life of finasteride is pretty irrelevant. A single dose will significantly lower DHT levels for a couple of days before it slowly climbs back to baseline. There's a graph posted on this forum somewhere I'm sure. I would still recommend an every day or maybe every other day dose to prevent hormones from fluctuating too much--I think it's probably best to keep them at steady levels.

I'm 25 and my hair loss is pretty minimal at this stage, but the one thing I keep seeing is people wishing they had started earlier so I'm starting early.
