It's a shame that no one talks about hairloss as a side effect of finasteride, but my own experience with finasteride and experiences of many others, it is. finasteride basically fried my hair. I lost density everywhere, especially in the crown, which had no thinning at all prior to finasteride, and my hair became very fine. I think the reason that some guys are worse off with finasteride is because their hair follicles are very sensitive to androgens and the body creates more DHT receptor sites in response to DHT suppresion. This is commonly referred to AR up-regulation. Nobody knows if this is the case with you, but the fact that your hair is finer, IMO, is not a good sign. For some guys, IMO, a lower dose, like .25 mg is all that is needed and more could actually worsen things. i wish this was talked about more for the benefit of the guys that are looking to try finasteride. Start with .25 mg because nobody can predict if they will be negative responders or not. I wish I had some advice for you, but unfortunately for people who get worse on finasteride, which still may not be you, there aren't a lot of good answers and a lot of unknowns, such as, if finasteride is discontinued will the receptor sites normalize again? If so, how long does the process take and how much damage will be done during the process? I'm in a similar situation and stuck in limbo as to what to do. I'm definitely worse off for taking finasteride, at least at the dose, 1.25 mg, that I was taking. i've read accounts of people who took finasteride and worsened their hairloss and stopped and their hair improved somewhat, but I think it can also go the other way. It all depends on how quickly AR downregulation happens, if it happens at all.
