finasteride and hairlines...

When I started finasteride I was just with some thining at the front right behind my hairline. Past the 4th month I thought that fincar is doing it's job at least maintaining. I was 5 months on Fincar and didn't got any good results at all, even things got worse for my hairline - looks thinner and temples - lost ground there the last month. Shedding increased recently. I decided to drop it for 3-4 days and switched to MERCK's Proscar cut into 4ths. Now it's been 20 days on Proscar.

Anyone with some similar experience ?
I know it sounds weird but is it possible finasteride to make things bad, I keep thinking it has no sense and without it would be worse...

I have been on Fincar (0.5mg daily) for like 7 months and I have had deterioration of my hairline, too. Nevertheless, I believe (only believe, since I have no photos to prove it even to myself) that my hair looks better on overall. Maybe the finasteride takes more time to work on the hairline, if it ever does, than on other parts of the head, and that deterioration is simply the natural way of balding of my head.

I have to underscore that I have no proof of the effect of finasteride on me. I am dissolving the Fincar pills in alcohol and take a dose of the liquid every morning and I am not certain that it works. I can only base my assumption that it does on other people's oppinion.

I'm trying to figure it out but the effect of finasteride in everyone is different. So I think of me. It could be probably that it's not so effective at the front, although lots of people claim to work everywhere. I've read that the front part of the scalp is more sensitive to testosterone dunno if it is true. So having 5ar2 blocked, reducing DHT, but increasing free T and things go bad for the front - this is a theory.
I'll have to do a bloodwork.

nearly 7months on finasteride + minoxidil= hairline has worsened.

first few months didnt notice any difference- if anything placebo effect probably made me think things were better. now over last month or two its clear my hairline thinning has worsened.

would this have occurred on its own or is it it finasteride?

i dont know.

I think most male pattern baldness shedding is gradual, if you have noticed a sudden increase in shedding, its most likely due to the finasteride doing its job -lowering your body's Dht and so making it possible for the folicle to create a new stronger hair while ejecting the old one. You should be able to look forward to thicker hair at least and possibley some new regrowth.

No one really knows.

But finasteride will at least keep your hair on your head longer than if you didn't use the drug. Fincar and Proscar has the same ingredient(finasterid) so I really don't why you should switch? For the people using 0.5mg ED and still feel like it don't stop their hairloss could try 1mg EOD because it suppress a little more DHT. Just be consistent because the first year on medication could cause some sheds.

The front of the scalp have more "sensitive" androgen receptors, so most people thin faster up front, but finasteride should help a lot.

For extra growth you could try a keto(nizoral) shampo or a a P-O shampo together with Prox-n/folligen/tricomin. minoxidil is good for growth, but it isn't a long term solution if you are not one of the lucky few. But in the hair loss game, one should take hat one could get.

It's all the exact same. Finasteride is finasteride regardless if you're taking fincar, propecia, finpecia or proscar.

I cut proscar pills into 4 and it's working on my hairline.

finasteride + minoxidil strengthened my hairline and filled in a good part of my temples.... It's a shame dutasteride + rogaine foam flushed those gains down the toilet!

I always have wondered if finasteride could actually cause the front of the scalp to become MORE "sensitive" androgen receptors, thus causing frontal thinning. This happened to me as well and I never recovered from it. And it only happened around the between the 6 to 8 month mark of starting with finasteride. My hairline was perfect before taking it.

my hairline was thinning before taking it a small patch that grew in size over a couple of months, somthing which i couldnt ignore- thats why I started taking finasteride + minoxidil.

ill keep taking it- see how it goes. it could all be down to natural balding- im in college- stressful times with workload etc.

strange thing is i dont seem to notice hairs falling out- i did before taking finasteride- which prompted me to start taking it.

I don't see how finasteride could actually help ruin a hairline. It just sounds like you're not responding to the drug so you continue to lose ground and blame it on your treatments. The hairline is notoriously hard to treat and finasteride doesn't respond for everybody.

help

I read that taking propecia can give you Gyno..
i have been taking propecia for 5 days i am 18 yrs old... ever since i hit puberty as far as i can remember i had a slight Gyno .. i have puffy nipples with a small lump underneath my nipples.. AT THE MOMENT it does not bother me since i workout and you cannot tell as much..

My concern is will my gyno get worse if i take propecia since i already have a small gyno ? my gyno as stayed the same for the past 5-6 years
Also any suplements i can take to combat getting gyno?
